Born 1951, M, from Wilmington NC, United States“For whom the Bell Tolls.” Who cares? They will never hear it anyway.

It was a church, one so poor that the poor box had a chain on it. Apparently, God doesn’t watch over spare change.

She wanted him to kiss her. He wanted to kiss her. Only two things stood in their way: her husband, and his wife. If only they could get to the kitchen.
***
The little girl held the dandelion under her chin.
“Is it yellow?”
“Yes.”
“Oh, good, that means I am in Love!”
“With you, or with me?”
Even at seven years of age, the look she gave him was withering.

He loved running Cross Country, the only team sport besides: wrestling, or tennis, or bowling… okay, I give up, maybe it isn’t the only team sport where you can be an individual. Ever helpful, his mind added a few more: Swimming, Golf, Diving…. He loved running Cross Country for other reasons too.

He slipped on the ice. That’s normal. However, the ice was inside the Space Station, and that, my friends, is not normal. He was out cold, well, that was both figuratively and literally true. And, that my friends, is exactly how they found him.

“It isn’t possible. Nothing could live up there! I mean there is no heat, there is no air, there are no vents.“
The tube worm was almost shouting at the others. Big Red simply held the hand with the watch still on it- up where all the tubes could see it. It was a picture, of people, on the surface, in a boat. Next to the tubes was the boat, and in it, were three people, who no longer looked like people. The scavengers were busily stripping the bones, in a few minutes, they would only have the picture and a few skeletons to prove their point. Finally Big Red spoke:
“Well…Little Pink…you know the laws…it came “Down”, which means it was up there. The legends must be right. There is a Surface.”
***
He had never been dead before, so it took him a few minutes to get used to it. He looked around, and one of the other newly dead people looked over at him. “First time, eh? You’ll get used to it!” A moment later, a baby cried, and he was no longer dead.

It was the bestest, mostest, greatest in the world. When you are five and eating Superman Ice Cream for the first time- well…that sentence is grammatically correct.

01/23/2023True! They can definitely be elaborated into stories. Some were rather humorous, as if being jokes with a punch-line. Strange as it might seem, the funniest one I found was the astronaut slipping on ice in a space station. Maybe it's the nochallant matter -of -fact casual way in which they are told. LOL!

01/23/2023I got the idea for this way of writing from a "Story" that Hemingway wrote. Supposedly he was asked to write a story using only six words...but telling a complete story. He wrote the saddest thing I read in just six words: "For sale. Baby shoes. Never worn." It made me cry. It also made me think about how many words it takes to write a comprehensive story.
Smiles, Kevin
