“Today at 9:00am in the bright blazing hot sun on August 30th, a sweet young 9th grader named Jane went missing. The police have been out looking for Jane since 5:00 this morning. There has been no sign of her. If you see her please call,” said the newscast lady in the blue polka-dotted dress.
“It’s been more than 24 hours and the sweet, innocent girl Jane Smith is still missing. She disappeared yesterday, August 30th, at 5:00 in the early morning. If you have any questions or see Jane Smith please call our lines. Our lines are open, so please call,” explained the newscast woman in the pink shirt (the same woman as last time but with a change of clothing). After Rebecca and her parents watched that news program, the house was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop, but Rebecca started to tear up and cry. They all were so disappointed about losing a family member. After sobbing, Rebecca ran outside and yelled for Jane and started to search for her again.
Rebecca’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, ran out behind Rebecca trying to get her to come inside because it was getting dark out. Rebecca has been so upset, she doesn’t even look at her phone or talk to any of her friends. Her parents have been pretty quiet too, but they have been talking to her friends for support. Rebecca was ignoring everyone, even her best friend, Skyler.
The next morning Rebecca stayed home from school to finally calm down. When Rebecca went to the supermarket with her parents, Rebecca saw her best friend Skyler, who also skipped school.
“Hey, Rebecca are you okay? You aren’t responding to any of my text messages. Do you want some help?” Skyler said.
“No, I’m not okay. I lost my only sister, I’m going crazy looking for her, and I don’t know what to say back to you because I am very scared,” cried Rebecca.
“Oh, ok. I’m sorry. I’ll help you look for your sister,” Skyler said tearing up, while hugging Rebecca. Rebecca and Skyler ran all around town looking for Jane.
On September 2, when Rebecca went back to school, everyone was hugging her, trying to make her feel better, but nothing was going to. Rebecca was in her last class in school; math. When that last bell rang, Rebecca was going to sprint down to Jane’s locker where Kelly, Jane’s best friend’s locker is.
“Ring, ring, ring” the bell rang and Rebecca sprinted down the hall to Kelly. When Rebecca got to Kelly’s locker she said,
“Hey, can I talk to you before you go?”
“Sure, are you okay?” said Kelly.
“I am so upset, but we can’t find her. Do you know where she could have ran?” Rebecca stuttered.
“No, but maybe she is where she and I used to always go when we were upset or lonely or even when we needed each other,” explained Kelly.
“Can you take me there?” asked Rebecca.
“Sure,” said Kelly.
Rebecca and Kelly walked pretty quickly to the woods. As they were walking to the woods, they were talking about what really could have happened to Jane and why she left. When they got to the woods they were screaming at the top of their lungs so the veins in their necks were showing.
“JANE” yelled Rebecca. “Is there anywhere in here you specifically go to?”.
“Yes, follow me,” said Kelly.
They climbed up a tree where their tree house was.
“This is it, this is where you guys always go?”
“Yup” said Kelly.
When they got to the top of the tree house they saw Jane lying there dead. Rebecca and Kelly screamed, their eyes widened, and shock spread throughout their bodies and they ran home.
When Rebecca went back to school she asked to make an annoucement.
“Hello, this is Rebecca Smith. Can I please have your attention? Since you all know that my sister Jane Smith is gone, if you have anything to say or know why she ran away please come see me. Thank you!” She hung up the microphone and started to tear up. As she walked out of the office trying to hold in her tears, she entered the cafeteria, and there was a whole line waiting for her. She sat down and asked the first person to come up. People kept coming up and out all day. At the end of the day, Rebecca went running down the hall to Jane’s best friend Kelly again.
“Hey, Kelly, can I talk to you again?”
“Sure, what do you need?” said Kelly.
“Ok, do you know anything about what happened to Jane? People were telling me that Jane was nice to everyone, but some people were mean to her.”
“Yeah, Jane always said she didn’t like this kid, and after school I would see Jane with him, but she always looked upset after talking to him.”
“Really, do you know who the kid was?”
“Yes, I think his name is John Corinth.”
“Thanks, I have to go, but I am going to go talk to him tomorrow.”
“Okay, bye” said Kelly. Rebecca went home and thought and couldn’t fall asleep because she was thinking so much about her sister and of the possibility that John Cornith killed Jane.
Rebecca was tired in the morning because she didn’t get that much sleep the night before, she was also nervous to go to school. Her mom dropped her off at school and she went searching for John. She finally found him. She asked him, “Did you know my sister?”
He said, “Yes, and I’m very sorry. I know you are probably mad at me, but I am very sorry.”
“Why, why would I be mad at you?”
“I threatened Jane. I made her kill herself.”
“NO, no why?” Rebecca said crying.
“I was jealous, she was always nice to people, but she wasn’t that nice to me, and I wanted to be her friend, so I could be popular.”
“No, no.” Rebecca cried.
“I know, I’m sorry. I was spreading rumors about her.” So two days ago Jane came up to me and found out that it was me and she was really mad at me. I told her I was going to keep spreading them unless she was nice to me and my friend. So I guess she killed herself because of it.”
“You’re....., you’re so mean. I am going to tell the police about this.”
“Okay, I’m sorry” John cried.
“EVERYTHING” Rebecca yelled. Rebecca ran home and called the police. Her parents came home from work too, she told them the truth.
Rebecca told the FBI, the police, and her parents. The police called John’s parents and picked up John in the police car. John was fined and he had to do a lot of community service hours. Rebecca and her parents were relieved to find the perpetrator, but also very upset that their own family member was dead. Rebecca continues to go on with her life and her parents are going to schools to share their family incidence and tell people to never spread rumors about people.
