The facade of friendship
Born 2006, F, from Pakistan/lahore, PakistanAs she walked through the school gates on her first day, Emily felt a mix of excitement and nerves. She had just moved to a new town and was eager to make friends. And make friends she did - or so she thought.
Within hours, she had a group of friends who seemed perfect. They were charming, popular, and inclusive. They welcomed her with open arms and made her feel like she belonged.
But as the days went by, Emily began to notice something off. Her friends were always "busy" when she needed help or support. They would gossip about others behind their backs and laugh at her when she didn't understand their inside jokes.
One day, while studying in the library, Emily stumbled upon a conversation between her friends that made her heart sink. They were talking about her, mocking her for being naive and trusting.
In that moment, Emily realized that her friends were not friends at all. They were just a facade, a mask of friendship that hid their true intentions.
As she walked out of the library, Emily felt a lump in her throat. She thought to herself, "Sometimes, the people you think are holding your hand are actually holding you back."
Emily's eyes welled up with tears as she whispered to herself, "I'll never let fake friends define my worth again".
