The New Student
Born 2011, F, from Seoul, Korea"Students, may I please have your attention for just a moment?" Mr. Sato snapped his fingers.
Everyone looked toward the teacher, curious.
"I would like to introduce a new student to our class, his name is Kai. I know that it's already been two months since the first semester commenced, but please welcome him warmly!" Mr. Sato explained.
Whispering among the students started. Everyone was wondering about the new student and they all seemed excited. I was curious about him too.
Suddenly, the door opened. The new student came. He had crimson hair and brown eyes. Just like any typical student. He had "the look" on his face which made me question him a bit. I ignored my gut and just put a smile on my face.
"Kai, please introduce yourself," Mr. Sato smiled.
"Hello, my name is Kai.. I'm from Kyoto," he said.
He was told to sit in the back, right behind me. When he passed by me, I felt a cold aura making me shiver. It made me even more curious and strange..
After class:
Finally, it was time for lunch. Class really did feel like an eternity. I met up with my friend Sumi who was in a different homeroom.
"Hey Yuki, did you remember to bring your lunch money this time?" she questioned.
"Yep, I didn't forget this time," I cheered.
Sumi and I both bought our lunches and sat down at the table. Out of nowhere, the new kid, Kai, came up to me. He spoke in a deep voice,
"You dropped your ID card."
That went down my spine. I never even used my ID card. What was with him, did he steal my ID card? No, then he wouldn't give it back to me. I was thinking so much I didn't even realize that he put it on the table and left.
"Why did you freeze back there?" Sumi asked.
"Nothing, let's just eat," I insisted.
We ate and had five minutes left of lunch time. Sumi randomly asked,
"Hey, umm, who was that guy back there? I haven't seen him before."
She seemed really curious and eager about him. I wondered why she wanted to know.
"Why do you ask?" I responded.
She looked at me in the eyes and gave me an awkward look.
"Well, he kind of.. you know," she replied.
"Ohh, he's your type?" I added.
"Yeah.." she quietly answered.
I thought. Why did she have a crush on him? It was only the first day for him.
"He's new in my homeroom, his name is Kai," I told her.
"Alright thanks for the information!" she smiled.
Time flew as the bell rang meaning it was already time for the next class.
At class
In class, the teacher was giving a really boring lecture. My seatmate, Kichiro, was asking me about the notes because he missed part of the lecture since he was in the restroom. I gave him the notes and he thanked me. Really, nothing interesting happened. Suddenly Mr. Sato looked confused. He asked the entire class,
"Hey everyone, where did Kai go? He was here just a second ago?"
Everyone looked back to see him disappeared. Everyone was confused and murmuring started. The teacher looked back and continued the lecture forgetting about Kai's disappearance. Out of the blank, I started to feel dizzy. My vision blurred and everything went black.
I woke up in the school infirmary. As I got up, my memory started to come back.
"Oh, you're awake," the nurse looked at me. "You passed out in class and school is almost over. I think you can go home now."
"Oh really? Thanks, I guess," I responded.
At home
I walked inside the apartment and headed to the elevator. When I got to the elevator, it said that it was out of use. I looked confused and decided to use the stairs instead. I went to my apartment and my mom was in front of the door.
"Oh, you're home! I was waiting for you!" She welcomed me.
"Why? Did something happen?" I inquired.
She gestured to me to sit down on the sofa. She turned on the news and I was shocked. Normally, Osaka is safe but on the news, it said that forty people were missing. Two children, nine elderly, eleven adults, and eighteen teenagers.
"Oh no, I feel bad for their families!" I exclaimed.
My mother nodded and told me to stay safe during the following week.
The next day ~
The teacher was doing attendance.
"Nori?" he called.
No answer. I turned back and I saw that Kai's seatmate, Nori, was not there.
"Huh, I guess she must be sick. I wonder why she didn't call," Mr. Sato assumed.
I gasped and hoped that he was safe. Honestly, not accusing Kai, but it was strange. Ever since he arrived, it's been weird. I guess I was just overthinking.
After class ~
"Yuki! Yuki!" Sumi ran up to me all excited.
She seemed awfully happy. She had never been this enthusiastic before.
"What happened?" I questioned.
"Kai and I are a couple now!" Sumi squealed.
I looked at her in silence. It had only been a day since he arrived. Why were they a couple already? She barely knew him.
"Isn't it strange? You guys haven't even spoken to each other at all and it's only his first day here," I told her.
"No, you're just jealous! Stop overthinking for once Yuki and just be happy for me!" she argued.
Kai came up to Sumi out of nowhere.
"Hey, I have a surprise for you. Can you follow me?" he told her.
"Week! ~ Of course," Sumi accepted. "Come on, let's go Yuki!"
"No, I mean just us two.." Kai stared at me.
What was with him? What was so bad about me, why couldn't I come along? No, I wasn't jealous or anything, I was just protective about Sumi's safety.
"Oh, I see. Let's go then Kai!" Sumi giggled as she followed Kai into the hallway.
I glared at Kai. Unexpectedly, he turned back and glared at me. Sumi was unaware as she was so excited that she didn't even care. Now I was really suspicious about him. The bell rang and those two were still going off. Now I see why he wasn't there at class yesterday. He was obviously skipping. I sighed and went to class.
The next day at school
For some reason, there were three teachers in our classroom. They were all whispering and had a scared expression on their faces. On top of that, our teacher wasn't here. Suddenly, one of the teachers spoke up,
"Hey everyone, sorry but um Mr. Sato is absent today, he called in sick. You can just go home."
Everyone looked confused and went home. Just as I was about to exit the classroom, Kai blocked the door.
"Oh what now?" I rolled my eyes at him.
"I need your help," he explained.
I looked at him weirdly. Why would this guy need my help? He kept a straight face, he was serious.
"Okay, with what?" I queried.
"Sumi is missing," he sobbed.
What? How could this be? She was here yesterday. I didn't think it was Kai because he seemed pretty upset about Sumi going missing already. I took a deep breath.
"How can I help?" I offered.
"She was last here," he told me.
"Why would she be in here? This isn't even her homeroom," I asked.
He shrugged. We both searched for any clues of why she would be in here. Then, when I turned back, I saw Kai holding up a ruler, pointing it at my neck.
"Kai.. what are you doing!" I yelled.
"It's you! You're the one in charge of Sumi's disappearance!" Kai exclaimed.
"Well, you finally figured it out," I smirked.
He was infuriated. I was just playing innocent. I snatched the ruler from him and pinned him to the ground. I smacked him in the head multiple times for him to pass out. I took out my pocket knife and ended him. I was laughing. I was a maniac, I really was and I was proud of it.
Moral of the story - Not everyone is who they seem to be, even the people who are kindest to you.

Help Us Understand What's Happening

02/03/2024Thank you, I was trying to make the main character a crazy killer attached to her loved ones that she would even murder them. I really wanted an edge to the story, a whole plot twist. I'm glad you enjoyed it! ~
