At about midnight, she fell on the footpath and now she was unable to know what was going in around her. After about an hour a car stopped and an old man came out of the car. The old man looked at Tara for a little while and muttered something and throw the light of the torch at her face. Tara opened her eyes and growled some words that the old man could not understand.
The old man picked up Tara and put her in the back seat of the car. When Tara opened her eyes, she found her in a cozy bed. She looked around and saw she was in a luxurious room having an air conditioner and a costly clock on the wall. It was seven o'clock in the morning. She jumped out of bed and began to think about where she was. Just then the door opened and an old lady entered the room and wished her good morning.
Tara asked the old lady, "Where am I? Who are you and how I reached here?"
"you are in the home of Mr. Singh. I am his maid Meeta and Mr. Singh collected you from the footpath last night where you were he found you fallen on a footpath in a drunken state," the old woman replied gently.
Hearing this Tara lowered her head with guilt. She said, "I am sorry for that. Thank you for helping me and sheltering me for a night."
Meeta said, "You are most welcome. Come with me."
They came out of the room to a big hall that was well-decorated with wooden furniture. Meeta said to her pointing to a corner, "Washroom is over there. You can use it."
Tara took a bath and now she was feeling well. Meeta offered her a delicious breakfast. Tara met Mr. Singh at the breakfast table in the kitchen. He was about sixty-five, tall, and of serious nature. She gave him thanks for helping her.
Singh asked her, "What's your name? And what are you doing on the footpath last night?"
Tara replied, "My name is Tara." saying so she lowered her head. She felt shame in answering the next question. Singh looked at her with anger and asked, "Who are your parents?" she said in a low sound, "Ramesh Kumar is my father? He is an owner of a rice mill."
Hearing the name Ramesh Kumar, Mr. Singh began to think of something for a little while and then said to Tara in anger, "At least you should think of your parents' respect if you don't think of yours before falling on the streets or drains in a drunken state."
Tara was feeling sorry and ashamed but was unable to do anything in this matter.
She looked at him miserly and lowered her head. She finished her breakfast and thanked him for offering her the breakfast.
Mr. Singh said to her, "You should try to give up this bad habit of drinking. You are pretty, well-educated, and belong to a good and respected family. Why are you destroying your life by excess drinking? "
Tara was looking at him and noticed his wet eyes. She thought that the old man is an emotional person. Mr. Singh continued his speech, "Youths like you have no future. People like you can never mend their ways. You don't have any answer to my question. "
Tara was busy finishing breakfast. She neither has the answer to his question nor wants to answer. She finished her breakfast. Meeta gave her tea. Meeta began to sip the tea. Mr. Singh looked at her with sympathy and said, "Look my child, life is given by God only once, so make the life beautiful and do the good works."
Tara replied, "Yes uncle. You are right. "
She finished the tea and took leave of Mr. Sing. Meena showed her out of the house.
