Feral Cats
Born 1950, F, from Conroe, TX, United StatesI see the signs of them on the deck furniture
A comfortable place to sleep.
I hear their sounds as they seek a mate
And leap from a roof too steep.
Their little paws are a reminder
Of a car with too much dust.
And scratches made when chases
Ensued from all that lust.
But now they've really got me mad
Presenting me with gifts
Of precious little birdies
Their little bodies stiff.
No, no, I tell them.
Please don't bring me this!
But they are arrogant in their love
And all I get is a diss.
I guess they think if birds I like
Then birds are what I'll get.
And in their narcissistic way
Decide they'll be my pet.

03/27/2023They must love u to bring u such treasures. Unfortunately cats are born killers so it is their nature to kill all small animals and birds they can, when they are left free to roam. The fact they would give up their kills for you shows how truly special u must be to them. Loved your poem which was well written and thought provoking, and u really delved into the nature of felines.
