Lost in the Cemetery
Born 2011, F, from Boston / MA, United StatesWhirling winds on this cold October evening sent chills down my back. I found myself wandering around a cemetery, which I had no idea how I got there. The cemetery was huge. I couldn’t see an exit, for what seemed like miles long.
A shaky and deep voice called out, “What are you doing in this abandoned cemetery?”
Abandoned? I thought.
“Yes, abandoned.” The voice answered as if they could read my mind.
By then, I was a bit freaked out. I ran along the paths, desperate to find an exit to go home. But, after what seemed like an hour of running, I started to think that this was a no exit cemetery, or maybe I am stuck in a world of gravestones. But, a better idea was that I was just dreaming, and I had to wake up somehow. I don’t think that’s a true thought though, because everything around me is so real, I can feel the wind, I can hear voices, I can smell salty air…
Wait, salty air?! Then I must be close to an ocean of some sort! My thoughts were exploding from my head.
Now, my goal was to get to an ocean, but I’d need to escape this cemetery first. And I don’t think that’s happening anytime soon.

The sky was now darker, almost pitch black. My eyelids were getting heavy. I felt I couldn’t keep them open any longer. So I closed them, just to rest a bit. And I definitely wasn’t ready to witness what happened next.
I was dreaming, a pale lady with dark hair approached me. She had an evil grin on her face, and had a filthy, brown, rag as her clothes. She looked down on me and said,
“This is an evil place, escape while you can.”

When I woke up the next morning, I could barely remember that dream. But, I remembered what the lady had said. This is an evil place, escape while you can. I could still hear the words repeating in my head. I’m actually scared now.
Escape? I thought, if I can’t even find an exit, how will I get out of here? Will I die? I need to calm myself.
I breathed slowly, I wasn’t completely calm, (obviously, I still had that evil looking lady stuck in my head,) but I was better than before.
I started slowly wandering around gravestones, looking at each name. Claire? That’s my name! And..the grave is open. Are they planning to kill me? Just then, someone jumps on me, pinning me to the ground.
This is it. I thought, I’m getting killed, murdered. What should I do? Just let them do their thing?
“I’m surprised you’re not scared.” The person said calmly.
They stood up and looked down at me. I turned around and was shocked. So shocked I couldn’t move or speak until about 30 seconds later.
“Claire McDougall? How are you here?” I finally asked.
“I got here the same way you did” She responded.
I told her about the evil looking lady, and Claire was freaked out even more than me.

Night had fallen and we were staring at the sky, looking for Autumn constellations. Eventually, I said,
“Hey Claire, I found the Cassiopeia constellation!”
No one responded. Not even a single cricket. All I heard was the wind blowing around me. I turned around and Claire was gone.
That’s odd…I thought, Claire was literally sitting behind me the entire time..
Little did I know, she was sitting behind me, as a ghost. She was killed when I was too busy looking for stars. And that open grave was for Claire McDougall, not Claire Lu.

Suddenly, the ground below me started shaking and I heard obnoxious yelling. I closed my eyes and covered my ears. But, when I opened my eyes again, I was in a little cottage in the woods…
What do I do now?
The Ghostly Figure
(Part 2 of Lost in the Cemetery)
It was a dark and stormy night when I found myself in a cottage after witnessing Claire McDougall’s death. That was when I saw a ghostly figure outside my window. It was pitch black, it had glowing red eyes, and was about six feet tall. It stared right into my eyes before going back into the forest.
I must be hallucinating. I thought.
But I wasn’t, that thing was actually there. I went to bed, hoping I could forget what just happened and move on to other things. I was wrong. I closed my eyes and imagined I was back at home. But, instead, I found myself in a dark room with nothing but a red glow of light. It was the creature.
“Why hello there” the creature thundered, while he shook the whole room.
“W-what do you want?” I stuttered with fear, while grasping onto whatever I could find. Which was nothing, so I fell backwards towards the ground.
The creature went silent. It was like it didn’t know how to answer, or like it didn’t understand what I asked. So I asked again. But this time I spoke bravely.
“What do you want??” I said, almost shouting, while standing up and brushing the dust off my sweater.
This time, it did answer. It gave an unexpected answer.
“I don’t really need anything….”
W-what? What’s THAT supposed to mean?? I thought.
There was an awkward silence that lasted about two minutes. We were just standing there, staring at each other. The red glowing eyes faded to a pale yellow, and they became shorter. About the height of an average sixth grader. It looked at me, turned around and picked something up. A trigger was pulled and I was shot dead.
(This is the bad ending, if you wish for the good ending, keep reading.)
Friendly Ghosts
(Part 3 of Lost in the Cemetery)
I was a ghost, I had no legs and best of all, I could fly. I flew out of the room, finding that it was some sort of a secret bunker. I eventually found the gigantic cemetery that I was stuck in days before. I found Claire McDougall sitting there in the darkness.
“Hi Claire!” I said happily.
“AAAH” she yelled, “Oh it’s only you.”
We laughed for a while, but she then questioned how I died. We talked together about what we did the past few days. Claire has gone casually haunting people with random gorilla noises. The best thing I did was to throw a rock in someone’s face. They were freaked out and screamed their way home.
But, not everything goes well. In one thunderstorm Claire got shocked with lightning and was thrown up into the air beyond Earth and landed on Mars. I stole one of NASA’s rocket ships and I flew to Mars to find Claire. We were going to live on Mars forever and ever until the day we’re thrown back to Earth. I don’t think that’s going to happen very soon.
