Born 1985, M, from Dhaka, BangladeshMarjita is the only daughter of her parents. Her father died in an accident when she was six years old. Marjita’s father was an electrician. One day he was in a residence task and suddenly he died due to an electric short circuit attack. Mrs. Mormita is nurturing her adorable infant with all her friendliness and love because she is an ill-fated child. Mrs. Mormita has never thought that she will be a widow. She has gotten a terrible shock after her husband’s premature death. She was a happy wife. But life has taught her a huge lesson. She is looking forward to facing all the hurdles she has to face as a mother to her only child. Marjita is her dreamy future and the moment she keeps her lonely eyes on Marjita’s sad eyes, she cannot control herself from shedding tears. She is working in a local non-government organization. She gets twelve thousand takas per month. She has a bank account and she keeps there some amount of money. She is living in a rental house in Dhaka. Two rooms are there.
One day at night there was no electricity and it was raining outside heavily. Marjita is playing with the candlelight. She is carefully trying to touch the flame of the candle. Marjita, don’t do this. Never play with the fire. What is the problem? I am passing my finger into the flame and I am sure that I will not be wounded. Marjita, concentration cannot compete with fire. The nature of fire is to burn everything. Stop playing this. Fire may warm, but incidentally, fire destroys the belongings. So never trust fire. Okay mother, I understand. Marjita, go to the next room and close the window. I have forgotten to close the window. Raindrops produce ecstasy in Marjita’s mind. Her hands become soaked and quickly she closes the window. Marjita, you should listen to one reality. What, mother? We quench our thirst by drinking water, but flood shatters people's life. We love the drizzle, but we look for a safe place during the thunderstorm. Everything has a double appearance. One is great and the other is terrible. Appearance floats timely. Surrounding nature is full of impressions. I was living happily when your father was alive. Now we are both in distress. I did not think about my life. You are my only option. Keep in mind, Marjita. Marjita is ten now. She understood her mother’s words.
Now, this is wintry weather. Today is Friday. Marjita is sleeping. It’s foggy outside. Although it was not so cold last night, nature suddenly changed. Mrs. Mormita is making a cake. She will go outside with Marjita after eating the cake. She will buy red meat. Marjita, wake up. Be fresh and eat cake. I will go to the bazaar with you. Marjita is yet sleepy. Okay mother, give me half an hour. Marjita loves winter very much.
Mrs. Mormita and Marjita are walking beside the road. What is your favorite season, mother? The spring. Why? Spring comes with colors. Spring is a heavenly season. You see fresh leaves and various blossoms only in spring. Spring generates new tastes. I love winter, mother. Why? Mist is like a veil. Cloudy breeze covers nature and it refreshes everything. We cannot see anything in the deep mist. We have to overtake the mist consciously to discover something. Mrs. Mormita is thinking about many things. What are you thinking, mother? I am thinking about your future. Your maternal uncle will visit us tomorrow. He will give me the document of property I have gotten from your grandfather. Mrs. Mormita was in conversation, but suddenly she screamed. An iron pin pierced her foot. She was in soft sandals. Marjita could not remove this. Mrs. Mormita was moaning in serious pain. Marjita is looking for a rickshaw. She will go to the hospital.
They reached the hospital within half an hour. The emergency doctor observed that the iron pin had touched the bone. The doctor removed the rusty pin, washed the injured leg, and bandaged it. He prescribed antibiotic medicine and advised bed rest for twenty days. The doctor also advised her to use crutches to use the bathroom. Marjita returns home with her mother. Marjita’s uncle comes in the evening and becomes worried about his sister’s condition. He buys some red meat and cooks it.
After nine days Mrs. Mormita is experiencing severe leg pain. The Antibiotic is not working. Marjita and her maternal uncle go to the hospital again and they consult with a specialist doctor. The doctor notices that some rust has caused problems in the flesh. Not even the right antibiotics were prescribed by the emergency doctor. The doctor gives an immediate test and after receiving the report he becomes very upset. He is a surgery specialist. An operation is urgent for her. Mrs. Mormita asks her brother to sell the land immediately. After three days a man bought the land. She has some money in the bank. Collectively this is sufficient for operation.
Marjita’s mother will have an operation tomorrow. Marjita, I am thirsty. Give me a glass of water. Marjita washes the glass and gives her mother cold water. Mrs. Mormita drinks water and prays to the creator for her only child. Are you sensing pain, mother? Yes. I do not know what tomorrow will happen. Give me the ornaments from the locker. Marjita opens the box. Your father gifted me this necklace, bangles, nose pins, and finger-ring. A gift is a pictogram of the mind. The gift is an identity of love. A gift is an honor. Gifts should not be sold. Remember it, Marjita. These are for you.
Marjita's mother's leg had to be amputated up to the ankle. The creator has taken away the gift. Although everything happens for the best, some unexpected pains are to be carried throughout life. Mrs. Mormita loves winter now. She was subconscious on the day of the accident. Marjita is weeping helplessly wearing her mother's ornaments.
