The morning sunlight peeked through the windows, following with the whispers of November’s cold wind, suddenly getting interrupted with the aggressive footsteps of rebellious students. A mob of late students begin running for the school gates, all pushing each other around gaining curses from other students. Security Guards begin chasing the late students with yells hovering around them, their walkie talkies full of Security Guards frustrated voices, and teachers scolding every student that catches a glimpse of their eyes, "What a delightful day in Chicago..." Avery groaned at the view of rebellious students running their way around people.
Hello, my name is Avery Smith, people call me Avery, I am sixteen years old and a class president, I get straight A’s and I am one of the smartest students in the school. I'm quite of an extrovert, but I don’t get along with many people in school. My friends tell me that the reason why is because I am very competitive and determined, which scares many people. This might be the reason why I only have a few friends.
My thoughts got interrupted as I saw my best friend running through the mob of late students, I sighed. This was Carter Davis, he has been my best friend since we were four years old, he is quite rebellious and constantly gets scolded for being late, surprisingly he does quite well in school as he is one of the smartest students. Suddenly I heard footsteps, Carter was running to the classroom trying to be on time, but by the time Carter had arrived, it was too late. The bell rung before he could reach the door, The english teacher, Ms. Appleby, shot a glare at him as he quickly hung his head down, he slowly walked towards Ms. Appleby and waited to get scolded. Each minute, more late students arrived, soon there was a group of late students outside in the hallway getting scolded by Ms. Appleby. I sighed looking at them, this was basically a morning school routine by now. A few minutes later, Ms. Appleby came inside the classroom as the trail of the late students followed behind, slowly walking up to their desks. I looked at Carter walking up to his desk beside me trying to not laugh, which I replied by rolling my eyes looking at his childish personality.
“Ms Smith?” I heard a voice calling my name, I looked to the front just to see Ms, Appleby looking at me signaling to read the list of late students.
I stood up from my desk and went to the front of the classroom and read the list. To nobody's surprise, Carter's name was written on it.
“Thankyou Ms, Smith,” Ms. Appleby said. “Remember those who hear their names will get extra homework for not being on time.” Some students groaned, annoyed as to the reason they were late was because of the heavy traffic in the morning. I guess it wasn’t their fault after all.
Around an hour and a half later, as Ms. Appleby was reading to the class, she got interrupted by the loud high pitched ring of the school bell. Staycie jumped as her sleep was disrupted by the school bell, Mark and Johnny laughed.
“You should have seen your face!” Mark laughed out loud. “Stop it!” yelled Staycie as she left the classroom stomping her feet.
“Remember to do your homework and study as we have a test tomorrow,” Ms Appleby said as other students groaned not wanting to do a test early in the morning.
After class ended, we had a 10 minute break, Carter and Bea followed me out of the classroom. “The class was so boring,” Carter said, he suddenly started rambling about why he was so bored in class, of course we didn’t understand due to him shouting it in our ears, Bea told him to talk in a lower voice because everyone was looking at us making Bea feel embarrassed, of course I also felt embarrassed but I tried to hide it by ignoring him and continued walking to my next class. This is Beatrice Curtis, most commonly known as Bea, she loves to create unique art work and gets good grades, she is more of a quiet introverted person but she is a good friend. We have been friends since we were five years old, we met each other when some kids were bullying Bea in the playground, luckily me and Carter came to save her from the bullies, and from then we became inseparable. You might wonder, how are three people with different personalities best friends? An awkward extrovert class president, a “reckless” student, and an introverted artistic student, that sounds like a joke, but surprisingly it isn't. Even if our personalities are different, they are similar in some ways, as we have always been there for each other and basically grew up together. We laugh, we cry and we fight like siblings. In school, we’re most commonly known as “The Three Musketeers”, due to being a group of three friends, but in real life our personalities don’t match with the personalities and character traits of the three musketeers. It's kind of weird.
“See you at lunch,” Carter said, interrupting my thoughts. Bea and I nodded at Carter as he waved at us walking to his classroom.
“Let’s go to class,'' Avery said as we walked together to History class.
The next day in school as we were finishing a test, the bell rang, indicating school was finally over. The students quickly packed their stuff and and turned their tests in, we bid our goodbyes and quickly left the school, in just a few minutes, the hallways were completely empty as the noise of students talking a few minutes ago disappeared. This was the last time we saw the three rebellious friends.
After school the three of us hung out in our hand out spot, aka Carter’s basement, we played games and watched movies, of course we didn’t forget to study, even though Carter had a rebellious personality and Bea barely had time to study, we had good grades and were top students. The next day at school while taking the list in class, the rebellious group of students were absent, but it was not surprising as they skipped school often and were some of the most rebellious students in school. A few days later, the rebellious students aka Mark, Staycie, and Johnny, were still not coming to school, which was odd since they had never skipped school for more than 2 days. I decided to shrug my thoughts and focus on the upcoming exams. A week went by and the three friends hadn’t contacted any of their family members and skipped school. They had done this a few times but only lasted for a day, so their family started to worry about them. Their friends contacted them, but it was no use, it said that the phone was turned off and nobody responded. The next week, their parents hung up missing people posters in the streets and inside the school to see if people had seen them, sadly nobody did.
One day one of the parents, aka Mark’s parents, received a mysterious phone call which sounded like Mark’s voice but the message he was trying to send wasn’t able to be heard due to the phone call breaking up. Their parents were very confused about this phone call, so they decided to call the police to see if this was really Mark’s voice.
The police tried to see if they could track their location, but due to the phones being turned off, they couldn't. Desperate the parents wanted answers as to why their children had gone missing with no explanation, what could be the cause of their disappearance? This question revolved around my head. Suddenly my thoughts got interrupted by the school bell, indicating school was over. I stood up from my desk and went home asking myself the same question over and over again, it was a mysterious case of missing students.
A few days later, the news of the missing students made the headlines, “The unsolved case of the missing students”. The same day a police investigation regarding the missing students got launched. In every corner of the school you would see police and teachers observing the students and discussing the investigation. Students were questioned if they had seen any of the missing students within the last few weeks, and each time the police received the same answer, no, the last time I saw them was a few days ago at school.
Police went to the missing student’s house and questioned anyone close to them, the police had searched every place in town but didn’t find them. Soon the news got to the newspaper and television, each day you would hear something about the investigation as this was a mysterious case. The parents felt a roller coaster of emotions, sadness, anger, confusion, nobody knew what had happened to the missing students, they were only sixteen.
One day as Carter, Bea, and I were helping clean the downstairs part of the school, we heard some strange noises coming from what we heard was below us. Confused, we followed the strange muffled noises, and we discovered a secret basement below the school. The doors were locked, but we could still hear the noises through the doors. We decided to go ask the people at the office if they had any keys that could unlock the doors of the basement. They asked us why and we told them how we heard muffled noises of people screaming coming from the basement. Carter found a fire extinguisher and managed to break the lock with the impact of the fire extinguisher. I quickly opened the door to see a pitch black room, the room went quiet, and the atmosphere became scary.
“Hello?” I said with a shaky voice, scared of the dark atmosphere. My voice echoed through the pitch black room that surrounded us.
The three of us started to become even more scared since we were all scared of dark rooms. Suddenly the voices came back,
“Help us please!” yelled a voice.
“We’re in here” a voice eagerly yelled.
We got scared by the sudden cries for help. We turned to each other and slowly entered the room. Carter found a flashlight in a box outside of the basement in front of the door, he turned on the flashlight to guide us and not get lost. As we went deeper into the basement, it felt like it was a never ending room that looked like it had never had even one bit of light come into the room. I started sweating, one of my biggest fears was being in a dark room, it felt suffocating, I held hands with Bea to calm down. Not only was I terrified, Carter and Bea were also terrified as they also have the same phobia as me. The echoey noises surrounded us, not looking down, I accidentally stepped on something, I looked down to see handcuffs, I picked them up in confusion,
“Why were there handcuffs in the school basement?” I thought.
Suddenly we heard noises of cans rolling on the floor, we looked into the direction of the sound and saw something that looked like people sitting on the floor.
We looked closer and were shocked and terrified to see Mark, Johnny, and Staycie, we rushed to them, seeing them in a weak state we screamed in horror, they had bruises on their bodies and had duct tape shutting their mouths, they also had handcuffs on their hands tied to a chair so they couldn't escape. We took the duct tape off their mouths, they started yelling at us to run away, we looked behind seeing the basement doors opening, starting to panic, we took off their handcuffs and held their hands, trying to escape the pitch black basement. As we running, the flashlight batteries died, suddenly a girl opening the door turned to us, she saw us, luckily since it was pitch black she lost us, we ran away from her and ran as fast as we could, running up the stairs to the first floor, the staff cleaning, looked at our terrified expressions. They helped us up as the girl from the basement ran to us, it was Lena, the most bullied person in school. She stopped as she saw the staff with us, she tried to run away but she couldn't. We locked her in the basement managing to escape her. Bea had called the police informing them that the missing students had been found and that we had found the person who kidnapped them.
Soon, the police came and arrested Lena for committing a crime, she looked at us with an evil smile, she looked like a phycopath. I will never forget her creepy evil smile.
A few hours later, after talking with Mark, Johnny, and Staycie, we heard the story through each of them explaining how they got kidnapped. Mark, Stacyie, and Johnny had stayed in school after all of the students and most of the staff had left, as they were walking around waiting for the perfect time to mess up the office, Staycie suddenly disappeared, Mark and Johnny thought she was pranking them and told her to come out, staycie didn’t respond. Mark and Johnny checked the hallway but found no trace of Staycie, suddenly they heard weird voices coming from below them, they followed the voices which led them in front of the basement doors. They noticed the door was open, and decided to go in, suddenly the doors shut behind them and they got locked inside. They tried banging on the doors, but it was too late, the building was completely empty. They were completely stuck inside with no way out, they managed to survive with the food they had in their backpacks but after finishing it all, they became weaker each day.
It turns out that the person who shut the door behind them and locked them in the basement was a bullied girl named Lena, she planned everything for their disappearance. She wanted to get revenge for bullying her and making her life miserable, for her revenge she wanted to make them know how it feels to have a miserable life. Anger had taken over her. She even took it to the next level and each day she visited them and handcuffed them, she made each day even more miserable for them and had become psychopath.
Back to the present, As you know, Lena got expelled from the school and was punished for her actions. Mark, Staycie, and Johnny recovered after a few days, and apologized to Lena, but it wasn’t enough to make her forgive them. They came back to school after recovering and became good students, they thanked us for saving them and we got to know them. It turns out that Lena was a psychopath and she would start following them wherever they went, when they tried to tell her to stop she acted like the victim and created fake acts and created fake stories about them saying that she was bullied and physically hurt by them, even going to the extreme and putting makeup on looking like bruises. She was jealous of their popularity and wanted to become popular like them, when she became popular because of her being bullied and people feeling pity for her, she decided to kidnap Mark, Johnny, and Staycie trying to make students forget about them. She hadn’t thought about how their disappearance would make them even more popular in school as this was a mysterious case. We were shocked to have learned the truth about Lena and how Mark, Johnny, and Staycue were actually good people. As weeks went by they started to hang out with us and we became friends, they also became a good influence around other students. Even though they recovered, they were traumatized by the incident but they tried to forget the incident and tried to focus on the present, and that's the story of how the mysterious case of the missing students was solved.
