Not so Quaint Barbershop
Born 2007, M, from Monterrey, MexicoChapter 1: Quaint Barbershop
It’s very sunny in Naperville, almost nothing ever happens there. After all, it's the town with the calmest atmosphere in all of the USA, truly it is quite a quaint town. In Naperville around a corner in Washington Street, you can find an equally quaint little barbershop popular among locals for its lively atmosphere. The outside window frame is coated in red & white stripes, the inside having that classic checkerboard floor. The reason for its lively feel was because of two barbers. Theodore the owner is usually gruff and quiet, but when he talks he’s pretty cool. On the other hand, Sawyer is fashionable and outgoing, but talking to him can get tedious after a while because he speaks as if he were a celebrity. Theo & Saw was the name of this fine establishment.
“Theodore, may you sweep the floor?” Saw demanded, “I don't want my yeezys to get dirty.”
“Hmf!” Theo will do it. They were as different as day and night, yet somehow they opened this shop around five years ago, but they didn’t come from the town. It was almost as if they suddenly appeared on a whim. Right now it’s closing time and everything is getting cleaned up for tomorrow.
“Today is the fifth anniversary of this shop,” Theo said, “It’s been a miracle that we’ve lasted this long without bringing attention.”
“Undoubtedly so,” again with the fancy speech, “But I would find it hard for us to get caught, we’ve lasted this long without anything bad happening.” Saw took his coat from the hanger as he flipped the closed sign. “Get a move on Theo, or I might just lock you up inside.
"Haha, like if you could do that." Theo rushed and they quickly locked the door behind them.
Theo looked at Saw, “We should go out for dinner tonight to commemorate this, maybe the nearby burger joint.
“That sounds like an excellent idea!” Saw beamed with enjoyment, “Too many more years!” That’s when something zoomed past them and crashed into the shop’s window, they flinched backward and carefully approached the window to see what it was. Before they had the time to realize what it was it exploded and blew up the whole shop, both Theo & Saw narrowly avoiding the glass shards that flew towards them. Shards and pieces of the ruble fell across the street, debris clouding the air. “What the heck was that!” Saw broke in a cold sweat, “That ripped up my Guccy robe! Who dared do this to me!”
“Who could it have been?” Theo instinctively took out some barber scissors and pointed them at the mysterious figure behind them, stripped of any mercy in his eyes. “Who are you?”
“Why, you don’t remember? It's your old pal, Liam!” Theo jumped back dragging Saw with him.
“It can’t be!”
Chapter 2: The Organization
“It, it’s you!” Saw shrieked as Theo reeled from shock, “You’re Liam, you were our student!” Some background for these characters, Theo and Saw were once the bosses of an unstoppable assassin group that dominated the underworld. They were unbeatable, but the day after Saw started getting into fashion and becoming a little self-centered the organization rebelled against its leaders. Theo and Saw almost died that day, barely managing to escape by climbing smuggling into a plane to an unknown destination. Liam was the protege of both of them and almost ended up becoming stronger than them before their disappearance. It's been years since their last meeting, who knows how strong Liam has gotten.
“That’s right, after five years I have finally found you guys!” Liam screeched maniacally, “After you guys escaped I have been looking all over for any traces of where you went. The organization gave up a long time ago, but once I report back to them you will be dead meat for sure!”
“This is bad,” Theo bites his nails, “To think our student would someday come to kill us.”
“It’s quite fine Theo, I have a proposition.” Saw puts his hand around Theo and explains his plan, Theo reels in from the shock.
“Are you sure we can use that? We haven’t even tested it yet!”
“It’s our only choice Theo, so don’t whine and get ready”
“Ok! Let’s do this!”
Chapter 3: Liams Demise & The Burger Joint
Theo helped Saw stand up as they positioned themselves for battle. “So you think you can beat me? You fools would have ended up better if you hadn’t even dared challenge me!” Liam stumbled over to both of them, both of them stepping back, “You don’t know how strong I’ve gotten. I won’t let you mock me anymore!” Liam took Saw by the throat and threw him to the other side of the road, Theo readied a punch but Liam blocked it and kicked him straight in the stomach. “You can’t win!”
“Damn it, if this keeps on going my designer pants might get ripped to shreds!” Saw coughed up blood, “Liam has gotten way stronger since last time. We’ve gotta use our strongest strategy, get ready Theo!” Theo huffed and got into a running position, they both ran towards him before lunging towards Liam on opposite sides. Saw pushed Liam’s legs, and Theo his head in which they tripped him and put him in a lock hold position.
“You may have gotten stronger but you’ll never be as strong as us!” Theo chuckled for a moment.
“Then what is that behind you?” In the split-second Theo looked at the other side Liam took the opportunity and kicked him towards some rubble and a steel beam in the rubble impaled him through his right arm, making him faint. Saw didn’t have much time to react either for Liam sucker-punched him right in the face throwing him down on the dusty street floor. “You both were never gonna defeat me. You’ve been living your best life running this barbershop, but every day since your disappearance I have been training nonstop!” Liam chuckled as he held his hand over Saw, “Time to meet your doom.”
“Heh, you fool,” Saw pulled out a water spray and sprayed it all over Liam, “This is not your win, but ours!” Saw pulled out a remote and input a code into it, which started to make the floor rumble as the street opened up right below Liam.
“Wha... What is this?” Liam reeled back in confusion.
“You thought we didn’t do anything for the last five years? Of course not!” Saw punched Liam right in the face and catapulted him right down the hole on the street right into a cockpit on top of a twenty-meter missile. “We knew you were gonna find us someday so we’ve been secretly building up a missile to blow up headquarters.” Saw cackled as he struggled to catch his breath, “And you are going to blow up with it!” The missile started igniting and rising off the ground.
“You can’t do this, this was supposed to be my chance to get revenge!” Liam struggled to try to get out of the cockpit, but it was too late. The missile was already long gone, flickering in the night sky until it was nothing more than a speck. Saw rushed over to Theo and took the steel bar out of his arm.
“We did it Saw.” Theo tried to get up but stumbled a little before Saw held him up.
“Calm down Theo, you gotta rest up. Let me bandage you up.”
“But what about the burger joint? We promised to go there.”
“You know, I’ve got a better idea! Why don’t we go? Back home and grill some burgers there? We will take care of the shop tomorrow, maybe we’ll say a gas main blew up.” Theo grunted in approval as they walked down the road back home.
