Crossing the line
Teen, F, from Indiana, United StatesSome people crave love and some people don’t… I guess I’m one of the people who don’t crave love. Maybe it’s because I’ve had it all my life? Or maybe it’s just love isn’t my fuel? All I know is that love and me don’t mix…. Well I guess love and me do mix but me and no privacy don’t… I don’t know, this love stuff is confusing. Well privacy and love aren’t the same thing… so maybe I am a love person just not a no privacy person? I mean who likes no privacy except of course the person trying to know all your business. Ok this is making my brain hurt.
“Shanti babe you've been out of it lately…. You good?” Denis, my best friend asked.
“Couldn’t be better.. just thinking about stuff” I said.
“Wanna enlighten me? Maybe I could help” Denis asked.
Denis, she’s the type of friend who acted like a parent even if she was younger then you.
“Den, if I wanted life advice I’d ask my mom. Thank you no thank you” I said before I stood up from our booth. Then came the infamous Samantha Gothing. Den’s BFF my enemy.
She and Den were basically meant for each other. While god probably made me then made her and thought we’d never cross paths. We are literally so different. I mean sometimes opposites attract and all and I mean like it kind of happened with me and Den but doesn’t work for all.
Anyway then infamous Samantha entered the room causing Den to squeal. “Omg Sammy you made it!” I looked at Denis then back at Samantha in shock.
Denis, my best friend who knew I didn’t like Samantha, voluntarily invited “Sammy” to come hang out with us! I yanked Denis by the arm to the nearest corner.
“Hi dearest friend of mine” I said with a fake sweet voice. “Shanti I can explain” Denis said, sensing my anger. “Oh ok explain I wanna hear this” I said putting my hands on my hips. “Well- uh- s- uh-“ Denis tried before she sucked her cheeks in realizing how bad it looked. “Can’t explain that’s fine” I said before I walked away.
Two weeks after the Samantha incident, me and Denis still weren’t talking. I mean what did you expect, bring a girl's enemy to a hang out for just you and her it will not be taken lightly.
Denis tried talking to me the first week but she got the hint and backed away. The second week hit and my family started realizing we stopped talking.
“Hey Ti, where's that Dentist girl we’ve all come to love?” My older brother Drake asked. “Of course you’d Be the first one to ask” I replied.
Drake was two years older than me and he had a crush on Denis. Ok look at me stating the obvious. Anyway she used to like him from what I know but then I guess she saw the side of him I saw and changed her mind.
“What” Drake asked. “I mean don’t play dumb” I said. Drake sighed and sat down showing me he was about to give his one in a billion life lessons.
“Shanti, sit down” he said, patting the seat next to him. “I’m fine here” I said as I leaned against the wall. “Whatever you say sis” he said before he sipped whatever was in his cup. Then he sighed again. “I used to have a whole bunch of friends- we didn’t stop being friends because any of them were fake intact. I invited them all over before and mom had nothing negative to say about them excluding their messes. Anyway me and the boys were pretty tight until something happened and I held a grudge even after they apologized I still held a grudge. That friend that I held a grudge against stopped talking to me and my other friends saw how I was treating him and they slowly turned away after trying and failing to convince me to cut him some slack. What I’m trying to say is if you really want to lose every friend you’ve got keep doing this but if you want to be friends longer drop it because it’s child’s play.” He said I was surprised when it actually made sense. I sighed knowing he was right and left the room. I wasn’t ready to admit he actually kind of sounded smart…. In other people cases like if someone are a lollipop that you could easily find it the store and you acted like this? That was a problem but, bringing my enemy around me even when you already knew she was my enemy. I had every right to be as petty and mean as I wanted because that was crossing the line.

08/20/2021Interesting story. Very true. I agree! I lived through that experience and know how hard such a situation is to accept. Tolerate it? Perhaps. But embrace it? I don't think so.
BTW
Denise is the female form of the male form Denis or Dennis.
