I Saw the Light
Born 1960, F, from San Antonio Texas, United StatesI SAW THE LIGHT
Someone asked me what my Near Death Experience was like. For the first time since it happened more than 30 years ago I have found the courage to put it into written word.
When I was 29 years old I went into the hospital for a D and C (dilation and curettage). This procedure is common. Mine was being done because I had several Miscarriages within a short period of time.
I was placed under general anesthesia. During the procedure my tube ruptured. I, in fact had not had a miscarriage, but had a tubal pregnancy. My blood pressure went to nothing and my breathing was minimal.
The doctors realized what was happening and were able to remove the ruptured tube. I was given a pint of blood and this saved my life.
But not before I had a NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE.
I was floating in the air. I looked down and saw myself lying on the operating table. My surgical team was all talking at once. I could not hear what they were saying, because there was a loud whooshing sound.
But then there was nothing but blackness. What looked to be a million miles away was a faint light like a twinkling star. It grew bigger and stronger. It was vibrant and brilliant, but not blinding. A voice said, "Shirley it's time to go."
I was like "What! No! I'm not dead!" The voice said, "Yes It's time."
I still refused to go. Other individuals who were refusing surrounded me. They all seemed to be unaware of the others. They were lost, desperate, desolate souls. We were between worlds. This world was nothing, just a bone chilling bleak darkness.
I saw people in the light. They seemed to be dancing and beckoning us.
It seemed to be welcoming, loving and accepting. The Light seemed to say GOD IS THE LIGHT, AND THE LIGHT IS GOD.
But yet I refused.
Finally the voice said, "You may return, there is a soul waiting to be born unto you."
I returned, and then two years later I had my son Matthew Smothers.
So Yes I was allowed to come back to give my Son a chance to be born.
I also changed, I now know there is life after death. I have worked to make myself a better person and to help others to realize that they should work to make themselves
And this world better.

12/10/2020Shirley,
If you wanted to reach folks, well, just look at the kinds of comments you got on this thread! Profound experiences are difficult to share...simply because how people will respond to it is unknown. In this thread there isn't a single example of someone taking your experience lightly, even if they have doubts about what happens after death.
The real life example of loving your son, and trying to be the best person you can be, those weren't lost on the reader either. Congrats on the courage to share, the dialog you started, and the Award from StoryStar!
Smiles, Kevin

11/19/2020Very convincing story. I struggle to believe that there is anything after death yet I wonder about it all the time. You have obviously experienced something quite amazing.
You may just have changed my ever changing mind.

11/09/2020Thanks for sharing this experience. Telling about what happened is hard and I for one, know near-death experiences are real and there is more we will never know about the subject than what we know.
