Won’t those days ever return?
Born 1948, M, from Pickering, Ontario, CanadaWon’t those days ever return? - By Vinni
Whatever current generation may think, say or even tease us,
we, who were born between 1930 and 1950, are luckier than them.
We were lucky because we spent our youth….
With nature
With relatives
With friends,
We lived happily…
With undiminished love.
What more luck do we need in this world?
We did not sleep alone in our own bedrooms,
we shared room with our parents
We were not allergic to any of the food, we ate.
There was no child proof lock in kitchen cupboards.
We did not carry heavy books to school, like donkeys
We never wore a helmet when we rode bicycles.
When we returned after school;
we did not hide inside our rooms, behind computers or hang around malls with our cellphones, but,
we played outside rest of the day with our siblings and friends until dark.
We played with our real friends not with online friends.
When we were thirsty, we drank water straight from taps never looked for water in plastic bottles.
We never fell sick even if four of us shared the water or juice from the same tap or the same bottle.
We ate lots of sweets and plates full of food, we were not over weight
We never bought expensive shoes but we walked bare feet or wore old shoes throughout the day and never hurt our feet
We rarely wore eye glasses though we studied under tiny kerosene lights
We were happy with our black and white television with few channels
We did not drink energy drinks and,
we swallowed no nutritional supplements but,
we were healthier eating previous day’s leftover food.
We played with the toys we invented from local material and played happily with them
Our parents were not rich and they never ran after making money
But they lived a frugal living without piling up credit card debts.
We knew how long to isolate ourselves from viral diseases
Like Influenza, Polio, malaria, Typhus, Dengue, Yellow Fever, Mumps, chicken pox or other
Above all, we never had Corona Virus
