“Have a great day Mrs. Bosworth,” he’d call at 7:00 A.M., as he’d pick up the morning newspaper and watch Mrs. Bosworth jog down Chambers street; “You too, Mr. Capes,” she’d call back with a broad smile, that’d be at 7:01. By 7:05, he’d be inside again; having thrown the newspaper on the cushion, he’d caress his collie, and scratch his head at 7:15 before serving the dog, food. He’d walk upstairs and would open the window, a bee would welcome him at 8:00 and having buzzed till 8:04, it’d go away; he’d walk to his wardrobe and would put on his dark black Batman T-shirt, walk down for breakfast and would spill ketch-up on his shirt at 9:00. He wouldn’t change until he’d be done eating; once he’d be done, though, he’d get a call.
“Hey Carl, can you pick me up from work?” Sally would say at 9:30; not making the mistake of disappointing his girlfriend- he’d say yes at 9:30:45. He’d take a mental note to pick Sally at 1:00 pm; then he’d go upstairs to change, finally. This time it’d be a blue T-shirt with the words, ‘MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU’, printed in bold on it; he’d then pick Toni Morrison’s ‘BELOVED’ and would start at page 124 and would stop reading at 225, that’d make it 11:05. At 11:20 the collie would begin to chase a mouse and by 11:45, he’d be exhausted already, trying to stop the dog. He’d set out to pick Sally at 12:45 and he’d be hardly any distance away from Sally’s workplace, when the truck would hit his car at 12: 57.
He’d hear approaching footsteps, he’d hear the scared cries and he’d see his hands, all soaked in blood; and when he’d feel his vision fading, he’d press the little button on his wrist watch, at 1:00.
He’d open his eyes on his bed at 6:50 A.M., he’d lie there for another four minutes then he’d walk downstairs, open the door and pick the newspaper as he’d call, “Have a great day Mrs. Bosworth”; at 7:00 A. M.
