The Governor’s Frenzy
Born 2010, M, from Portland, Oregon, United StatesOn a chilly Boston day of the year of 1773, three ships loaded with tea were to be unloaded soon. A redcoat called Tim was standing guard at the tea vessels. He was not very interested in his job because he was drafted. He did not volunteer. He wished to be a scientist and was not a very good soldier. On the other hand, in school he had A’s in science and surpassed his teachers knowledge. He resorted to going to a scientist’s lab for tutoring after school every day. Now he was unfortunately drafted in the army. Mysteriously, a crowd of people started to gather next to the boats. Soon After, Sons of Libertys dressed as Indians started to board the ship, split the tea boxes open and dumped tea in the harbor. Tim stood frozen as the crowd started to chant:
“Rally, indians! Bring your axes, and tell King George we’ll pay no taxes!”
The day after, a messenger sent a message to all of the redcoats of Boston from the Royal Governor of Boston:
British soldiers of Boston:
You are to go to the Boston Common at 3pm sharp.
-The Royal Governor of Boston
After all the British soldiers of Boston arrived at Boston Common, the governor had a look of absolute fury, red in the face, clenched fists, shouting, angry attitude, everything. There were three poles erected with flags on them, one blue, one red, and one white. Then the governor said:
“The soldiers who were not at the ‘occasion’, stand at the blue flag. If you were there, stand at the red flag.
He looked at the masses of people and calmly said:
“If you stand blue, go home. And for you redcoats who were at the ‘occasion’: if you fought the rioters, stay at red. If you stood still, white.”
And so Tim proceeded to move to the white flag. He would regret this move for the rest of his life. The reason for this was clear in the next sentence the governor said:
“For the people at red, go home. Now, for the people who are at the white flag: KILL THEM ALL, IN ANY WAY, POSSIBLE! WHETHER GUILLOTINE OR MASSACRE, KILL THEM ALL! YOU GET DISMEMBERMENT, YOU GET DISMEMBERMENT, YOU GET DISMEMBERMENT! KILL THEM ALL! GO TO HELL! OBITUM REBELS! DEATH TO REBELS! KILL THEM ALL!
Now Tim’s head was on the chopping block and as he had his last thought: he thought of a moral that he had been taught when he was just a child,
"If you serve evil do not expect to be paid by evil."

10/26/2019I guess 'the rest of his life' was not a very long time to regret his inaction, was it? Definitely a thought provoking peek back in time, Lucas. Thanks for sharing your historical fiction story for kids on Storystar.
