The big brown bear.
Born 1953, F, from Auckland, New ZealandBriar and her nana went for a walk in the forest. It wasn’t really a forest it was her Aunty Shirls bushy backyard. It was like a forest though with a lot of bushes and trees, a bridge and a stream, oh and of course it had a cave, a very dark cave that wasn’t really a cave. It was underneath the house.
They noticed a line of ants going in the opposite direction. Briar asked them why they were running away.
“A big bear has moved in, its in the cave around the next corner”
“It knew we lived here and it plans to have us for his dinner”
“Be very careful” they added as they moved very fast past them.
They took no noticed and walked over the bridge with the water underneath them.
The eels looked scared. “Get out" they said, "a massive bear has moved into the cave around the corner” It knew we lived here and it plans to eat us for his lunch. Be very careful.”
Nana and Briar looked at each other a little scared but decided to keep walking as they had never heard of bears living in caves in New Zealand. Especially in a cave that wasn’t really a cave.
They walked down the rocky walkway getting closer to the dark cave and came across two kiwis.
“Run run“ said the two brown kiwis as they saw them disappear into the deep dark bush.
“It’s not going to be kiwi pie for that bears breakfast“
Nana and Briar looked scared but kept on walking towards the cave.
“Maybe a bear has escaped from the Zoo” said nana
“Maybe” said Briar “let’s turn back”
They didn’t turn back, they kept going, scared but excited. Briar loved bears and was thinking maybe it will be a nice friendly bear.
Nana was thinking there’s a door to the house very close to the cave. Maybe they will have to run into the house through the secret door that was close to the cave. It wasn’t really a secret door it was the door to Aunty Shirls bedroom.
They turned the corner that lead to the cave. It was dark, it was wet, it was slippery and they had to walk very carefully.
Tip toe tip toe tip toe.
They spotted a torch on the ground and picked it up. Aunty Shirl had left it there with a message that read, 'use the torch'.
Tip toe tip toe tip toe. Torch on. Nana screamed, Briar screamed, frozen to the spot. Screamed some more.
There sat a big brown cuddly soft toy holding a sign that said:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRIAR.
Briar picked up the oversized bear, hugged it, and took it back the way they had come.
Nana and Briar yelled out to all the insects and animals in the forest,
“It's just a soft cuddly toy, sillies, come back home!”
The End
