Bill and Jill's Chores
Born 1953, F, from Auckland, New ZealandBill's mother told him and Jill off. They had played all day and not done their chores.
“All you have to do is fetch water, is that so hard?" their mother said.
“Yes mother we shall go soon” said Bill, but they kept on playing.
It was getting dark so he and Jill set off up the mountain.
Jill tripped over and grazed her knee, all she heard was a baaa baaa. She had tripped over a little black lamb.
“That’s Mary’s lamb” said Bill.
“No her lamb is white” said Jill.
“No that one kept following her to school so her parents would not let her keep it, looks like this one isn’t much better” said Bill.
“No silly" said Jill, "they probably put it here to graze at night time.”
They carried on up the mountain, but Jill could smell something really bad and then realised she had sheep poop all over her dress. Jill began to cry.
Bill thought this was funny but even funnier when he saw a cow. The clouds had gone for just that minute and the moon shone down on them.
Just as Bill looked up the cow had jumped right over that moon. He told Jill but she didn’t believe him.
They where arguing with each other just like they usually did when along came a girl with a red cape on. She told them to be on the look out for her grandma.
She had been on the mountain and completely disappeared right in front of the little girl with the red cape on.
Bill and Jill kept walking up the mountain. It was very dark but they finally made it to the top. The little girl with the red cape followed behind them calling for her grandma.
Grandma suddenly appeared behind all three of them pinching her nose at the smell on Jill’s clothing.
“Where did you come from” they all asked.
“I took the lift at the bottom of the mountain, it’s so much faster” replied grandma with a very big grin on her face and still holding her nose tightly.
“What are you children doing up here at this hour of the night?“ she asked Bill and Jill
They replied “We have come to fetch the water from the well."
Grandma started to laugh and said ”why don’t you get it from the tap at the bottom of the mountain Silly Billy’s“
“What tap? show us show us”
When they climbed back down Grandma showed them the tap and from then on their daily chore was going to be very easy, or so they thought.
Bill asked grandma “what are you doing up the mountain grandma?” Grandma answered with giving Bill a little wink and Bill winked back.
“I bought my grand daughter up here to watch the cow jump over the moon.”
As grandma walked away she mumbled to her grand daughter with a chuckle, “next thing he’ll say he saw a cat with a fiddle”
Bill and Jill returned home and were in big trouble because they had to use all the water to wash Jill and her smelly clothing and because it was very late.
Bill asked mum if she knew about the tap and the mountain lift.
“Of course I knew about the tap and the mountain lift, but that walk up the mountain is very good exercise for the two of you”
She walked over to her husband and whispered “Did you know about the tap or the mountain lift”
he nodded no.
Puzzled, Bill and Jill’s parents went in search of the tap and the mountain lift when their children went to school.
They where nowhere to be found.
They both agreed their children would be having a good laugh at them.

05/31/2019Thank you Jd, I made up this little story for my grand-daughter Briar and she thought it was really funny. Especially the poo part. There is something about gross things that all kids find funny.
