A secret passageway in school
Born 2010, F, from Beaverton, United StatesOne day, when I was in the school library searching for a book to check out, I found a book that talked about the history of my school. I flipped open the book and a piece of crinkled paper fell out and landed on the ground. I bent down and picked up the piece of paper. It said, “There is a secret passageway hidden in this school. Once you find it, follow the trail and you will find a surprise.” When I finished reading the piece of paper, I took the book about history of my school to check out in case it had clues about where the secret passageway was hidden.
After library, it was time to pack up and go home. My friends and I sat together under a tree. It is the spot our parents pick us up at.
“I found a note in this that said there was a secret passageway hidden in the school,” I said, “If we follow the trail, there will be a surprise at the end!” I took out the note and the book to show my friends.
“Well, we should go look for it.” one of my friends, Ellie said.
“Yeah! It is so cool!” said my other friend, Olivia.
“Okay. Just make sure no one else knows about it so they won't get the treasure,” I said, “Let’s go tomorrow, because tomorrow is Saturday, so no one should be here. Let’s meet right under this tree at ten o’clock.”
“Got it.” Olivia and Ellie said at the same time.
When I got home, I told my mom about the note I found at the school library.
“Sure, you can go. As long as you get back home for lunch.” my mom said.
The next morning, I woke up, got dressed, and ate some breakfast. When it was almost ten o’clock, I grabbed the book and the note and walked out the door.
When I got to the tree, I saw my friends waiting for me.
“Hi!” I said. “Let’s go!” So we walked into the school. I skimmed the pages of the book that I checked out. It said that this school was very old and was used for hiding things that were valuable. There is one secret passageway that leads to the hiding spot. There was a picture of where it was. I looked at it and compared it to the school.
“That looks like the library.” said Olivia, looking over my shoulders.
“Then let’s go to the library!” I said. So we ran all the way to the library.
“The picture shows a bookcase is where the secret passageway is!” said Ellie. So we searched around the library for a bookcase that looked like the one in the picture.
“What about this one?” asked Olivia. It was hidden behind another bookcase.
“That looks like it! It was hidden so people who were regularly checking out books wouldn’t find it.” I said. “Let’s try pushing it.” I suggested. We pushed with all our might, but the bookcase didn't budge.
“When I watch cartoons, sometimes, you have to pull a certain book, and then the bookcase would move, and there would be a secret passageway.” said Ellie.
“Then we should try pulling all the books until we find the one that makes the bookcase move.” said Olivia.
“Okay.” I said. We pulled on a lot of books until I pulled a book that didn't come out. I tried pushing it back in. I pushed it in a little too far and the bookcase moved, revealing the secret passageway.
I pushed open the door and we walked inside. It was really dark. We could barely see a thing. There was only one path so we just kept on walking until we came to another door. I pushed it, but the door was locked.
“Locked.” I muttered. Olivia sat down.
“Ouch!” she suddenly shouted. She jumped up. I looked at where she sat. There was something shiny on the ground. I picked it up. It was a key. I inserted it in the key hole and turned. The door opened and we walked inside. I found a light switch. When I turned on the light, we gasped. The room was full of gold and silver. There were gold pots, bowls, and lots of others. There were silver pots, bowls and other stuff. We found big buckets that we could carry the silver and gold. Me and Olivia had found wagons to hold all the buckets of gold and silver. While me and Olivia pulled the wagon, Ellie guided us down the path until we finally made it back to the library.
“That was awesome!” said Olivia.
“Let’s go home and show our parents!” I said.
“Okay!” said Ellie. So we went home and showed our parents. They told owners of museums that three kids had found tons of gold and silver. The museum owners came and inspected the silver and gold.
“Congratulations!” they said. “You found real gold and silver!”
“Yay!!!” we cheered. The owners had let us keep the gold and silver, and the news reporters would interview them.
“We are famous!” said Olivia. It was a lucky day today.
The End!
