An act of terrorism
Born 1953, F, from Auckland, New Zealand15/03/19
The worst day in New Zealand history.
When we woke this morning New Zealand was our wonderful kiwi paradise. All going about our day before an unprecedented act of terrorism that has changed our country forever. I feel so sad.
49 so far have been counted as dead and another 48 are in operating rooms. This is probably not a final count.
What monsters could do this unspeakable act against another human.
To wait until 2 mosques full of our Muslim brotherhood that are praying. The attackers knew how many people would be in there and opened fire on these poor innocent people.
How dare these people come into our lovely peaceful country and do something so so awful.
New Zealand is in mourning. Every New Zealander is saddened.
Christchurch, where this unfolded, went into lock down until 6.00 pm. As if this city has not had enough.
Many of the children of Christchurch are still traumatised after being in the earthquakes a few years back.
In the earthquakes 120 people died, but it was not a deliberate act like today's tragedy.
What motivates these disgusting monsters. Just watching these people overwhelmed with grief makes tears roll down my face.
Families that will never see their loved ones again.
100's of family members stand outside the hospital waiting for news on loved ones.
Tonight is the night we must stand as a nation, hand in hand.
New Zealand does not accept racism. We embrace diversity, we are a compassionate country.
A lot of the people that were killed today in this terror attack came to New Zealand to live in a safe country to bring up their children in a country that accepts we are all different but we are all the same.
Words can not express the sadness.

03/20/2019Shay, thank you so much for sharing this story about the horrific terrorist attack in your country. Because it is a heartfelt true story about current events, and how they affected you personally, it is worthy of being featured on the front page as both the Short Story STAR of the DAY, and of the WEEK. I hope nothing like this will ever happen again, anywhere in the world. I suppose that is just wishful thinking, but perhaps stories like yours will cause people to think twice and perhaps consider the consequences to so many others... which might possibly prevent someone from acting with such violence in the future. Maybe.... Hopefully!

03/20/2019You are setting a great example in NZ, Shay. I sure wish that we could follow your example here in the USA. But I can't imagine it happening any time soon, since there are too many crazies here who are willing to defend their right to own these sorts of guns with their lives. Personally I don't see why anyone should have the right to own a gun capable of shooting a room full of children in a few minutes, but even after it happened in Sandy Hook Elementary, no one was able to accomplish greater gun restrictions in the year/s following.
I'm glad for you and your country that you have been able to accomplish what we could not. I hope it proves to be a successful deterrent to similar mass shootings occurring there in the future.

03/20/2019Thank you JD for your thoughts.
Today NZ has pulled all semi automatic weapons from our country. As of 2 weeks from now anyone that owns one has to have it handed in and they are not allowed to be purchased.
The government have a buy back amnesty period. After that anyone with a weapon like this will be arrested.
This is not going to remove the horror of what has happened but it’s a good start.
Hopefully nothing like this will ever happen again.
Many thanks, :-)

03/19/2019I was so sad to hear about the shooting in NZ, and you put it into words. I really, really, hope that some people learn from their mistakes and I hope that they never hurt anyone else ever again. Great job

03/19/2019Thank you Hannah, Christchurch shootings are very sad. My son was their yesterday and said there is a very sad sad mood.
My daughter is working their today and said surprisingly it is very quiet. I will be pleased when she flys home this afternoon.
as I just said under the other name I have written under. You are a gem and I really mean that.
I was really worried about the girl that you made comment on her post. I am glad you told her you are into art.
She will have you to communicate with. You are mature beyond your years.
Thank you Hannah

03/16/2019Unfortunately, no place on earth where people co-exist is immune from such 'monstrous acts'.... : (

03/15/2019Shay,
Oh. My. God. My heart goes out to all of you in NZ...and those families in particular. I don't own a TV and don't subscribe to any News Feeds via computer. I was completely unaware of this tragedy until I read your Story. I can only offer the hope that people are getting sick of these kinds of attacks, and maybe, just maybe, we will take out the seeds that allow folks to be deluded by hate, instead of encouraged by possibility.
I send giant hugs, words suck. Smiles, Kevin
