The Dragon
Born 2010, M, from Portland, Oregon, United StatesThe rain dropped down onto the window as I stared outside from my living room. The family was all in the farmhouse. My mom was working. My dad was working. My brother was reading a book and, of course, I was staring out the window.
No one was outside, not even the horses. There was nothing to do. Suddenly from behind the hill a huge wing appeared. Was it a hawk? No not a hawk, too big, much too big. “Can I go outside?” I asked my mom. “no” she said, so I got my jacket and got ready to go outside. When I got outside it was gone. I was about to go back in when I saw it again, then it disappeared. But I knew it was still around the farm so I looked around for any sheltered spots, hill, hill, and hill, then I started searching.
I thought I would not have to get too close to the hills. I was wrong, but I would find why later. I searched all the hills by looking at them from all sides and found nothing so I went inside. The next day was a school day and when I got to school the wing appeared again out of nowhere, but I was still stumped on where it lived. Later I told my friend about it. “meh” he said “just a eagle," I see plenty of them every day.” ”You don’t understand it was HUGE.” “How huge?” He asked. “probably bigger than five eagles and that was just the wing.” He stared at me amazed and didn’t talk for the rest of the day.
On the bus ride my other friend said “I think you broke him, how?” I told him I am pretty sure I broke him too. The next day I was eating breakfast and it hit me even when I looked around the whole hill there may have still been spots I couldn’t see. That day it was my friend who spotted it. “WOW your right! Can I touch it?” “Back up, first how do we get there, second how do we know you will want to touch it when you touch it, third how do you know it’s not dangerous, and lastly how do you know it will want you to touch it?”
“Could we get NASA? Could we”- “seriously stop daydreaming or we will be late for class, also the answer to my question is no, you can’t touch it.” “Dang I wanted to touch it” he complained. At recess, I saw it again. The next day I checked the hills and on one of the hills I found a cave, so I called my friend over and brought him to the cave. “Are you ready?” “As ready as i’ll ever be facing a unknown huge winged creature.” “Okay let’s go.” So I grabbed a flashlight and went in.
It was surprisingly damp, dark, and cold. “You never told me it was like this.” “Well I never knew it was like this.” Then I saw some sheep bones, last year a few sheep disappeared. “So the creature ate the sheep.” “I guess so.” I stepped a few feet forward and before me was millions of dollars worth of treasure. From the books I read I only knew one creature that hoarded treasure, “dragon”.
Suddenly curled around the hoard of treasure the dragon stirred, “who is there! Dragons are friendly but do not seem so. anyway yes, I am carnivorous but I am not dangerous to human beans.” How did he know what I was thinking? "It’s human, not beans, it’s human being.” “I can read your mind as all dragons can do. And no, I don’t use the hoard, I have it. Be on your way and DO NOT tell anyone about this.”
I still visit him now and again, but now if you want to see him I’ll give you a clue. He’s somewhere in Yellowstone, Wyoming, United States of America.
