Premonition
Born 1999, M, from Chennai, IndiaI’m a Professor in a reputed University. I’ve been studying about a psychological phenomenon, “Premonition”, for a while now. Although there is no material evidence suggesting the existence of such a thing, the word has been in use to describe a “sense of knowing what’s going to happen in the future”. But when I got to thinking, I understood it has a deeper meaning.
Much to my surprise, my own student, Rachel, became a subject of interrogation for Premonition. She had premonitions about herself, and about the people whom she cared about.
“We are gathered here to have a major discussion about premonitions. There are quite a lot of myths surrounding this topic. Is it true? Is it real? Is it just fantasy? Are there any witnesses? There are some many such questions regarding this subject. Now, I am going to show you a documentary video on a girl named Rachel. Let’s start.”
(The video starts)
“I want to talk to you, Claire. Please.”.
“Rachel, I don’t have time now. I must go.”.
“You should not. Please don’t go surfing today”
“What?”, Claire sounded puzzled.
Claire is Rachel’s sister.
“Well, I,uh, I had a vision”.
“A vision? What’s that?”.
“I had a vision, like, you were going end up in an accident.”
Claire was not only unhappy, but extremely angry hearing that. She gave a tight slap to Rachel, sending her on the floor.
Rachel was holding her cheek, tears rolling in her eyes.
“Please, Claire, listen to me. Rachel pleaded.
“Get the hell out of my sight”. Claire shouted and slammed the door on her way out.
“HELPPPP Somebody HELPPPPPP!!”, Clare screamed. She was drowning. There was no one near her to help her out. She was shouting in the top of her voice, slowly losing consciousness.
“Rachel? Rachel? Get up”. Her mom slowly waked her up from the bed. She was in tears, she was crying.
“Mom? What is it?”.
“It’s…It’s Claire honey”.
“Claire what? What happened to her?”.
“She is dead, she drowned in the sea”.
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”. Rachel screamed and got up from the bed. She was sweating, her hands shivering, tears rolling down her cheeks. She looked across her bed, Claire was sleeping. She was alright. She was fine.
“Rachel? Honey, are you alright?”. Her mom came rushing through the door, holding her tightly close to her.
Rachel fell unconscious on her mother’s lap.
“Is she going to be alright? I’m really worried about her”.
“She must be all right. I don’t know why she is having these kind of visions but my best guess is that she is highly stressed with something and she needs to lay back.”
“Make sure she takes her medicines on time. Take good care of her.”.
“I will”, said Amanda, Rachel’s mother.
**Rachel and her mother visited a therapist since Rachel had been getting scary visions of the future, or as we, as leading researchers refer to it, Premonitions.**
“How are you feeling now honey?”.
“I’m fine Mom. I’m not a Patient, don’t treat me like one”.
“Just take some rest, all right?”.
Rachel nodded.
Amanda pulled downed the curtains, turned down the lights, hoping and praying for her daughter to have a good night’s sleep at least today.
“MOMMMMMM! Where are you?!!!!!!
Rachel was screaming in the middle of the night. She could tell someone was inside. She felt the presence. She heard footsteps, the sound of murmurs, and most of all, a constant threatening which said “I WANT YOU”.
“MOMMMMM?!
The lights were not working, nothing was visible. And suddenly, there was this loud noise.
“BANGGGGGGG”.
“Who is that? Who is here?????!!!!" Rachel kept screaming. She moved slowly up the stairs, climbed it up, her whole body was literally shaking. She could tell that everyone’s house had power, except her’s. She saw it through the window.
“Anyone here….?”Anyone? Mom, where are you?”.
“She’s dead”, said a voice. Rachel was startled. She was frozen, she could barely move. Suddenly, the power came back. The whole place lighted up. And there she was, her mom, with her throat slit by a knife, laying on the floor with blood all over her.
“You are going to be dead soon too”, said the same voice. It was from back of her. She slowly turned back her head. And a knife was struck to her stomach, hard, very hard. Rachel screamed in pain.
“NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!NOOOOOOOOO!!!!”.
“SHHHHHHH. You are alright honey. Calm down. Calm down.”.
Rachel woke up. She was on her bed. Her mom was sitting right in front of her, holding her tightly. That’s it. It happened again. She couldn’t stand her vision. She hugged her mom close.
(The video stops).
“Now, tell me, the vision that Rachel just had, would you call it a dream or a premonition?”. I asked the students seated there.
“A dream, sir. Clearly, a dream”, one student answered.
“Well, then, take a look at this newspaper head line, exactly 1 year after Rachel had this “dream”.
“Brutal murder of a mother and her daughter”. It had Rachel and her mother’s photo attached to it. And also, the picture of “I WANT YOU” written in blood on the wall.
I could see the students faces changing. They were nervous with anticipation. Some were sweating in a totally air conditioned room. Some were crying. Some looked completely confused, lost.
“Now, here is the thing. You called Rachel’s vision a dream, but when you read this article, that’s exactly what happened an year later. You think it’s still a dream?” I asked them.
They nodded their head sideways.
One of the student raised his hand.
“Yes?”.
“What about the other premonition of Rachel sir? About her sister? So that was just a dream?”.
“I suppose so”.
I looked at my watch. It was time.
“Well, students, We will continue this in the next hour. Time for lunch. Have a good day all”.
I fired up my laptop in my cabin to have a glance at the news.
“Girl dead during surfing, got drowned by the unexpected huge wave”.
I zoomed in, to get a proper look in the pic.
I could feel my hands shivering and me sweating heavily. Claire. Claire was dead.
