The Day The Characters QUIT!
Born 2007, F, from Portland OR, United StatesOne day, Roald Dahl found a stack of envelopes on his desk. Surprisingly, they were all addressed to him. Roald opened up the envelopes one by one and read them...
Dear Roald,
Remember me? I’m your famous character, the Big Friendly Giant. WE NEED TO TALK! You are literally HORRIBLE at designing characters. I have ears that are TOO BIG, I am nearly BALD, and I look like an OLD RAG. Seriously! I really wish that I’m a burly giant that helps save the world from bandits and bad guys and stuff, not a skinny one that gets tortured by the others!!! I’m humiliated and I never leave my house these days.
Your Nasty Looking Creation,
The BFG
Dear Mr. Dahl,
I’m Charlie, and I’m really grateful that you didn’t make me drown in a chocolate river or get turned into a giant blueberry. But I think the others don’t deserve to be treated like that. Augustus is a greedy chocolate eater, I know. But don’t you think it’s too over that he got squeezed into the pipes and stuff? Violet is arrogant, but it isn’t fair that she got turned into a whole different shape and form!!! You’re treating your characters really badly, and the little children who read this book will be scared to death!!! You need to think twice before designing your plot!
Your Unhappy Creation,
Charlie
Dear Mr. Roald,
Matilda here. I’m having a little problem. You portrayed me as a sweet little girl who’s a genius and has superpowers. I’m okay with that. Really okay with that. But there’s only one problem: You made Miss Honey too sweet! Miss Honey and I are in a little competition to see who’s the sweetest person. It seems like she’s winning, and I’m not happy about that. It turns out that you are the one to blame! You've written me to be a naughty little girl who put a newt in Miss Trunchbull’s cup and put superglue in my father’s hat, and Miss Honey to be an innocent, sweet teacher. You’re the reason I lost this battle! I’ll never forgive you!!
The True Winner, MATILDA!!!!
Dear Mr. Dahl,
Greetings. I’m Miss Honey. I have a question for you: Why did you make me a person who lacks confidence and bravery? I’m tired of being Aunt Trunchbull’s slave. But then, there’s another question I want to ask: How come Matilda can be the role model who gains a superpower? IT’S SIMPLY NOT FAIR! As a child, I don’t want to be the innocent and helpless one. I want to be just like Matilda! Just because I’m not the main character, doesn’t mean I can’t have some cool powers! Next time, when you write a story, you REALLY need to think about your characters.
The Envious Teacher,
Miss Honey
Roald felt frustrated. Since when did his characters come to life? Why were they so unhappy? Then, an idea struck him:
He invited all his characters to a party, and they wrote a story together. Everyone was willing to take part in it, and they eventually finished a fascinating book called “The Survivor’s Guide To Enormous and Creepy Chocolate Factories Written By A Courageous Teacher, A Handsome Giant, A Quick-Witted Girl, And A Thoughtful Boy”. Finally, everyone was happy, and the problem was solved.
