The Stolen French Bread
It was a fresh winter morning, with Sun shining brightly across my mouse print curtains. The smell of freshly brewed coffee was filling my senses and slowly waking me up from my dream world. Suddenly, my phone started ringing. It was Professor Monster Fur, the head of Katie Research laboratory.
“Listen up Morning Paws, I need your help, my French bread got stolen!!!!” the Professor said.
This was very well a big tragedy, as Professor Monster Fur had worked hard on it and had been planning to display the bread in the Paris International Museum.
It was very valuable to the Professor, as it was 100 years old, made from a special yeast that was imported from a far away land. It had been specially preserved over the years and still it tasted as good as a freshly baked one!
So I set off on my super long trip, from the state of California in the U.S. to the city of Paris in France.
It was a long, tiring journey. A snoring cat sitting beside me could not let me sleep. I tried putting on my ear plugs but in vain. I requested Billie, the airhostess, to change my seat but she had no other option. The food served was not of my liking but luckily I had my black rat flavoured gum that helped me in avoiding the motion sickness.
Next morning, I reached Paris. Professor Monster Fur had sent his assistant to pick me up. The Paris town square was a hustling and bustling place, so unlike the California Water Bay. The streets were lined up with special French desserts and confectionaries, the smell of which rejuvenated me. All my senses had come alive! But I had an important mission to solve and so I straight away headed off to Monster Fur’s lab.
As I reached there, Professor Monster Fur greeted me and gave me a brief outline of the whole case. He told me, he had hidden the bread carefully in his laboratory and his specially trained cat guards were protecting it 24 hours but somehow it got stolen and now it is placed in the topmost security room of the Montparnasse tower, in a specially secured, password-protected box. He also told me that he suspected his long time rival gang, ‘The Scary Canines (TSC) to be behind it. So, I had to now start searching for more clues.
I sat overnight and planned out everything. I had solved many mysteries earlier but this one held special importance as Professor Monster Fur was my mentor, my role-model, and my teacher, everything to me.
It was not an easy task to reach the top of one of the tallest tower in Paris. So, next morning, I got all the climbing gear, the gloves, the shoes, the crampons, harness, helmets, and the crash pads. Professor Monster Fur was adamant to send some of his assistants with me but I believed I was strong enough to handle it on my own.
I had studied the floor plan of Montparnasse tower and I knew all its floors were well guarded and I had to be very careful.
So, I reached the Montparnasse tower. It was around lunch time and the tower was surrounded by curious tourists, gasping at the architectural beauty of this century old tower. Now, the mission was to somehow reach the top. After all, climbing 50 floors was not an easy task. I put on all my climbing gear and gradually started going up. I had to hide myself from the security staff laid out at every floor. As I reached the 25th floor, suddenly my helmet fell down and made a loud BANG...Gosh! Now I will be caught...but luck was on my side and somehow I escaped the gazing eyes of all the security guards.
Finally, as I reached to the top, I looked for the security room. Four huge security cats were standing near its door, heavily armed. I had to somehow divert their attention. I knew I had to do something fast else they would catch me. Suddenly I remembered Professor had told me that these security guards are very scared of dogs. I used my specially programmed tape that could produce any sound as required. So, I started playing dog sounds.”BOW-WOW, ARF-ARF, WOOF-WOOF, BOW-WOW”. It went on and on...
The security cats got petrified and started running helter-skelter. A strong panic had gripped them and they started running down. They forgot that they were doing an important duty of guarding the security room. They were so frightened that they even forgot to pick up their arms.
This was my chance. I immediately looked for the way to open the door of the security room. My eyes suddenly fell on a control lever. I turned it to the right and to my surprise, the room opened. But my ordeal was not yet over. There was a huge locker, which asked for a pass code. More than three unsuccessful attempts and the security alarms on all the floors would start ringing. I had to be fast, very fast. What to do???
After two failed attempts, I hummed my lucky hymn and tried one last time....Oh Yes, Oh Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes!!!
The locker opened and to my cat rattling surprise, the stolen bread was there!
I immediately grabbed it and ran down as fast as I could. But this time I used a proper route. After climbing 50 floors, my body was aching and my climbing gear was not in a good shape now. I very confidently moved out of the tower and caught the first available cab.
I could hear the sound of the security alarms ringing in the tower but I was already far far away from the piercing eyes of the tower staff.
Professor Monster fur could not believe his eyes. He could not be happier. He hugged me so tight that I got breathless...huffing and puffing, I told him the whole story. He felt so proud of me that he could not stop shouting, “you have done it, you have done it, Furcat Feather”!
One more feather in my cap but now, it was time to go back home. Next day, I took a flight back to California and made sure this time I had all my favourite snacks with me. It was a peaceful flight and I reached home safe and healthy, beaming with joy.
As I was relaxing in my bathtub, the world news was playing on my BIGCAT 5 TV. The CNN (Cat News Network) was constantly flashing my victory story. It was all about me and how I saved the stolen bread.
I had become a celebrity.
