Flight of Friendship
Born 2007, F, from Portland, Oregon, United StatesLong ago in a land far away, lived a brave but lonely dragon, Fierystar. She defeated even the most evil creatures. Although she had many fans, she didn’t have a single friend or family member, (dragons are born magically) not even one. She didn’t intend to be famous for her heroism.. Her only mission was to save those innocent mice from the large, poisonous spiders. And she simply couldn’t watch the little newborn kittens get hurt by the scary, stampeding bulls. Fierystar thought that she would have a friend after that save, but instead, she got fame and fans. It wasn’t as bad as being alone, but it was nothing, nothing compared to having a true friend.
One summer day, Fierystar marched up the hill of Evercoast and glanced at the wishing well. She pulled out her crystal. The crystal was valuable, but it would never have the gossip a friend would share, and it could never be part of a true team. In fact she would even give up the crystal for an actual friend. She tossed the gem into the fountain and whispered, “I want a friend more than ever.” She returned to her cave just in time to watch the sun, slowly disappear under the horizon. Then, within seconds, the peaceful moment turned upside-down.
“Boom! Crack Sizzle!” Those were the sounds Fierystar heard before she felt the tremble beneath her feet. An Earthquake? She thought. No, it couldn’t be. Maybe some- Her thoughts were interrupted when the ground opened and she fell in, as if the floor was swallowing her whole.
Stay calm, Fierystar. You have fought tougher battles than just being stuck in a hole, a dark, damp, dim and scary hole…
“Get a hold of yourself!” Fierystar shouted aloud.
“You will get yourself out of here.” she said again.
“That would be great!” A faraway voice echoed, “Meanwhile...could you maybe help me too?” Curious, Fierystar clambered over the pile of boulders and saw a masked figure, about her age, with a fiery tail, stuck under the rocks.
“It would be nice if you helped me...without staring at me like I’m a movie star.” the masked figure said playfully. “By the way, you can call me Flameheart.” Fierystar only stared more, Flameheart was the first person to treat her like an equal, not a celebrity or some sort. Then she remembered Flameheart’s request to free her from the stones that were trapping her.
“Thanks.” Flameheart said, “You’re a very nice friend you know.” Fierystar didn’t hear anything except the word friend.
In the dirt and grime, Flameheart probably couldn’t recognize her face.
Flameheart, she thought, the name sounded so familiar to Fierystar.
“Wow,” Fierystar said breathlessly, “You are the first person that treated me equally…”
“Wait, are you a criminal or something? Why aren’t you treated equally?” Flameheart questioned cautiously.
“Oh no, no, nothing like that,” Fierystar said hopefully.
“Are you sure you’re not a criminal? I’m kind of sticking to that idea.” Flameheart answered.
Fierystar blushed. Friends DON’T lie to each other she thought, and this is the only one I have.
“Fine.” Fierystar sighed, “My name is Fierystar, savior of the animals or whatever they call me.”
“Wow, you sure are humble for such a brave hero.” Flameheart removed her mask, and beneath it, was someone Fierystar thought she would never meet…
“Y-Y-You’re Flameheart, the great sorceress that saved the world from eternal winter!” Fierystar did a little dance.
“Okay. We can save the dances for later. First, let’s get out of this hole.
Flameheart and Fierystar spread their wings and flew high into the sky where they returned home together, and they lived happily ever after.
