Why Don’t You?
“Pass the cream, why don’t you?”
The elderly man replies.
His request was left unheard
Forcing sadness in his eyes.
The room remained as silent
As it always seemed to stay.
This old man sighed again
Wishing for a forgotten day.
His daughter and grandson both
Were glued to the screens they held,
One to beat the level
One for the job she excelled.
The old man asked his kin again,
Louder than he had before,
This time the woman looked up,
Her hand reached out to pour.
But, alas, just then, her phone rang,
Spilling the cream all around,
She jumped up, and grabbed her son,
Knocking his phone to the ground.
A hurried woman ran out,
with a screaming son behind her.
Leaving a saddened old man
with cream he saw through a blur.
