The End
Tick tock, tick tock... a clock chimed, oblivious to it's surrounding. It sat in a house. A house alone in a black sea. A house alone in a black sea of burnt bodies, animals, and buildings. It was the year after the great fire of April 4, 3000. Somewhere in the house, a stove burned on, cooking pancakes and waffles. An aroma of maple syrup filled the smoke-y air. Breakfast tables flipped from wall panels, chairs slid up from floor boards. Along tapes, recordings, and electric wires, robots with metallic arms and a blank expression rolled up to the stove and took out the waffles and pancakes, and put it on the table. Then, it silently rolled away. Apart from the slow creak of floorboards from the robot, not even a pin dropped. The house stood amidst the endless sea of black. The last ember from a bonfire. The fire had wiped out everything. One couldn't, wouldn't see any children running around, or any grandparents on the porch knitting. And yet, the faithful house kept life going. It was strange that the fire hadn't much harmed this house. Although the paint was peeling, that was the biggest problem for the house. Soon, the pancakes and waffles were hard as rock. The tables flipped back. Bringing them with it. Next, vacuum robots brushed up anything on the ground. After the vacuum went back into the closet, pool tables and cards popped out. And once again, chairs slid forward. The stove could be smelled making sweet rolls and ham sandwiches. A dog whimpered up to the front door. The door did not open. A few moments later, the dog's eyes turned bloodshot. Its mouth foamed. It ran around, tiring itself before it died. Eventually, robotic rats, sensing the decaying meat, rolled forward. Pushing the dog into the ventilation hole. There, it would be burned by the incinerator. Suddenly, a branch broke through the window. Onto the cooking stove, which set a fire. A red light flashed while a hidden voice said 'Fire Fire!'. The fire rushed through the carpet lain family room, where there was still a pool table and cards. Eating them up like a child would with a sweet. Sprinklers sprouted from the ceiling, almost quenching the fire. The water rats wheeled up and channeled their water, then went back for more. But the fire had spread too much. Filling the whole house with redness. And then, it spread to the 'brain' of the home. Where it controlled water, and everything. The house shut down. Shut down because of its own technology.
There was a house that stood amidst a black sea of rubble. The last ember of a bonfire. That ember, was gone.
