A Cup of Tea
Born 1985, M, from Dhaka, BangladeshGood days are out of sight now for Kusum. Only one son could not study at all. Husband died five years ago. Kiron is intensely trying to switch his family to a good stand anyhow. Life is threatening sometimes. Nothing is wondering in this world. Everything is quite normal. We have to see colorfully. Kusum and Kiron's lives are fully black and white. They cannot see any color in their life. Only three times meal taking is their target. Torn dirty dresses show their lame fight.
Kusum is ready to go for housekeeping. She gets one thousand takas per month. But she cannot do anything more than arranging everyday meals. Kiron adds some more money. He works in a small hotel. He gets five hundred takas. Their dream is just to take a breath properly. What others say is never their concern. Their honest hardworking someday can give a reward.
Kiron is working in the hotel. A customer is eating dalpuri. He is gesturing Kiron to take one. Kiron gives him a cup of tea. The customer makes him bound to take tea with dalpuri. Kiron becomes stunned observing the man. Kiron is only seven years old and he is cute at the look. So, all love him. Kiron thinks it enough for his tiny rusty life.
Kusum comes early today. She is not feeling good. She is feeling feverish. Kiron is taking care of his mother. Kusum is moaning now. Fever is high now. Kiron is thinking to go for getting medicine from a shop. It is dark outside now. Probably rain will come. When Kiron goes outside from the slam, it is raining then. He becomes wet but returns with medicine. Kusum is sleeping now. Her gloomy resting face sketches a sign of struggle, Kiron observes this picture.
Kiron, O Kiron. Kusum is calling Kiron. Kiron is sleeping. Kusum follows Kiron, her only little child. Kiron works hard. Kusum knows this. She sheds tears remembering her husband. He was a good guy. Kiron could go to school if he was alive.
