Born 1986, M, from West Sussex, United KingdomThe bloody Scottish Glens
By Craig Cooper-Towers
(Note to Readers: This is the first 3 chapters of an unfinished story.)
It was a cold dark night in the Scottish glens where our story starts. There is a low hanging fog and in the distance there is a glimmer of a flash light and an echo of a small boy calling for his mother. Through the fog the light gets closer and closer and the boy’s voice gets louder and louder. The boy was about 10 years old he was wearing a long blue coat undone with a pair of trousers with holes in the knees, a red jumper that was ripped at the neck line in one hand he held the flash light and in the other he held what looks like a small stick that could even be mistaken as a magic wand. The fog gets lighter as the sun starts to come up and the daylight reviles that the boy isn’t holding a stick but instead he is holding a knife, a knife covered in blood along with his hands and his face is battered bruised covered in cuts and one of his eyes is swollen shut. He looks around and calls for his mother again but there is no response. Then in the distance there is a cry of a woman that is calling for Alex, again we here the cry for Alex then the boy calls for his mother again but sounds more existed than worried. The woman calls for Alex a third time and then she comes crawling along the floor grasping on to moss covered rocks to help her move along the floor. She is in a night gown that is ripped to ribbons and covered in blood her face is also covered in blood but it seems to be someone else’s as there doesn’t seam to be a cut or bruise on her face. However her leg is broken to the point that the bone is coming through the skin.
Ales call to his mother “I did it mummy, I did it he won’t hurt us any more”. His mother responds with “How could you he was your father”, “but mummy he was hurting you and making you cry every day” Alex called back as he started to run to her “I had to do it to protect you mummy”. “Alex I was going to run away and take you with me you didn’t need to hurt him.” “But mummy he hurt you I didn’t want him to get away with it. Just like I’m not going to let you get away with hurting me and my sister”.
The woman looked at Alex with the look of shock and confusion. “What are you talking about Alex” she asks “I have never hurt you or your Sister, all I have ever done to you and your sister is loved both of you”. “So why did you always smack us and why did you let Sabrina get taken away from us?” Alex asked. “I’m sorry Alex I had to let Sabrina go we couldn’t afford for her to stay, A man from London and said that he can give her a better life, He gave me some money and promised that we could go and see her ever three months” she replied. “But we haven’t seen her for over a year mummy. Why have we not seen her mummy?” asked Alex, “I’m Sorry Alex but I didn’t Know how to tell you this but she died about two years ago. She died after she was attack by the man who took her to London”. “Your father blamed it all on me because I let him take her with him. And that is why he hurt me and beat me up. He took his anger out on me and then I took my anger out on you I am so sorry” Lisa (his mother) told him. “But why did you hide it from me Mummy why didn’t you tell me that she had died?” asked Alex “I rely miss Sabrina mummy I rely miss her and want her back”. “Sorry but she is gone and she can’t come back Alex no one can bring her back” Lisa told him. Alex dropped the knife and collapsed to his knees and started crying, Lisa started to drag herself along the cold wet moss towards Alex to comfort him.
Back at the house where Alex’s father Harrison’s body was lying on the landing floor in a pool of blood. There neighbour Juliet who was in her mid 40s and lived a five minute walk down the road comes to see the family as it was the 2 year anniversary of the death of Sabrina. Juliet knocks on the front door and it creeks open Juliet knocks again and calls out “hello any one home?” There is no reply she goes into the house slowly and with caution and again calls out “hello any one home?” She walks into the kitchen she notices that the stove is still on and turns it off and heads to the family room. She draws the curtains to let in some light to have a better look around. Juliet looks around the family room and noticed that there were a few red spots on the floor she looked closer to inspect and see what it was. She notices that it is blood and leaves the front room and heads back to the kitchen to get something to protect herself with. After picking up a heavy cast iron skillet and headed upstairs as she climbs the stairs slowly the body of Harrison comes into view and Juliet lets out a blood curdling scream at this Harrison lets out a small moan and Juliet drops to her knees beside Harrison and turns him over to see that he is hanging on to his life and she sees the he has been stabbed several times. As she holds on to Harrison Juliet gets her phone out of her coat pocket and with her hands covered in blood and shaking and preceded to calls the police and an ambulance. As she waits for the police and ambulance to turn up she held onto Harrison and used her coat to try and stop the bleeding. Five minutes later the ambulance arrives and comes to the door and shouts “hello Paramedics”. Juliet shouts “we are up stirs please help he has been stabbed”. The paramedic runs up and starts treating Harrison a few minutes later the police arrive and run upstairs and find Juliet stood in the corner crying and shaking in the corner and take her into one of the bedrooms and start to comfort her.
After about ten minutes of treatment the paramedic came into the room where the police officer was comforting Juliet and said to them “I’m sort we tried everything we could but it was too late, he had lost a lot of blood before we had got here and his injures where too extensive there was nothing more we can do I’m sorry he’s gone”. The police officer went up to the paramedic and simply put his hand on his shoulder and said “Thank you, you did everything you could”. The paramedic turned and left, the police officer turned to Juliet and asked “I know this is a hard time for you but can I ask, how did you know this person?” Juliet proceeded to tell the police officer how she knew Harrison and the family.
After Juliet told the officer how she knew the family the officer then asked “Do you know where the rest of the family are and do you know if the family had any problems with anyone that would have any reasons to do this?” Juliet said to the officer “I do have suspicions that there was abuse in the relationship and Lisa his wife regularly could be seen with burn marks on her arms and back eyes”. The officer then asked “Juliet is it? Is it OK if you come to the station with us so we can ask you a few more questions please?” Juliet agrees and goes with the officer and head to the police station.
Back over on the glen Lisa and Alex are on the floor holding on to each other. After a few more minutes Lisa breaks the silence and asks Alex “do you think we can go back and go to the hospital”. Alex replied very quietly “yes OK mummy we can do that”. Lisa replied “thank you and maybe we can go back home and talk about everything”. As Lisa went to get up she go onto one knee and then falls back to the floor as she can’t support herself she asked Alex “can you find me a stick please so I can use it to walk with please Alex dear?” as Alex agreed and headed off to find a stick so his mother could use it to walk with Lisa picked p the knife that Alex had used to stab his father and then dropped as he found out about the death of his sister and hid it in her night gown. As Lisa and Alex slowly stumbled to the nearest road in the hope that they can flag someone down to take them to the hospital, Alex asked why she had stayed with his father for so long after all the abuse. Lisa explained “The only reason I stayed with your father for so long was because I needed time to sort everything out so one day whilst your father was at work we could pack a small bag each and just leave”. Alex gave a simple reply of “O.K.” and continued to help his mother to walk to the road.
After about five minutes they made it to the road and just in time as the ambulance that had just come from dealing with Harrison was making its way down the road Lisa waved it down and the ambulance stopped and the paramedic rushed out to help her. As one of the paramedics attended took Lisa into the ambulance the other tended to Alex. In the ambulance the Paramedic asked Lisa “how did this happen” Lisa then preceded to tell the paramedic what had happened and how Alex had killed Harrison and gave the knife to the paramedic and asked if he could hide it and call the police. The Paramedic agreed to hide the knife and then told Lisa “I have actually just come from your house and I am sorry to say that your husband didn’t make it”. Lisa then burst into tears and the paramedic started to comfort her and apologise and that he did everything he could. Outside the ambulance Alex was being attended by the other paramedic and was asked “are you OK and dose it hurt anywhere?” Alex replied to the paramedic “just my head after my dad hitting me so much”. The paramedic then asked “was it your father that did this to your mother and do you know where he is now?” Alex responded by saying “no mummy broke her leg running away from my daddy. I stopped him chasing after her and that when he hit me and after he stopped hitting me he ran upstairs to get his shoes on to go after her. As he was up stairs I ran into the kitchen and got a knife then ran upstairs and stabbed him so he wouldn’t hurt me or mummy ever again.” The Paramedic looked at Alex with a shocked look on his face and then told him to wait outside the ambulance for a minute. He went in and told the paramedic that was treating Lisa what he had just heard from Alex and radioed dispatch to get the police to their location as soon as they can. The police arrived within two minutes and spoke to the paramedics and then Lisa and said “I’m sorry but we are going to have to take Alex to the hospital to get checked over then to the police station where he will stay until you have been cleared to leave the hospital and can attend an interview with him”. Lisa simply replied with a nod of her head and the police officer then left the back of the ambulance. Just as the officer was about to close the door Lisa asked “can I speak to Alex before you take him away please?” the officer said “yes but please make it quick” and went off to get him. Alex came into the back of the ambulance and went to Lisa, Lisa explained “OK what is going to happen is that you are going to go with the nice police man and he is going to take you to the hospital to see if you are OK and then he will take you to the police station to look after you until mummy is better OK, don’t be scared be the big brave boy I know you are, do it for Sabrina she will be so proud of you”. Alex gave her a slow nod of his head and went with the officer. Just before the police car pulled away the paramedic that was dealing with Lisa called the officer over and handed him the knife that Lisa had given him and explained that Lisa had given it to him to hide and he felt that it would be better off with the officer, the police officer thanked the paramedic and Lisa and then drove off a few minutes later the paramedics had treated Lisa enough that the felt it was safe to head off to the hospital themselves so the paramedic that had originally treated Alex got into the front of the ambulance and drove off to the hospital.
The bloody Scottish Glens
Chapter 2
The ambulance That Lisa was travelling in arrived at the A&E department of St Angus McFarron Hospital where it was met by a team of doctors and nurses. Lisa was wheeled into a room where the medical staff started treating her injuries. After about ten minutes of treatment the doctor announced “there is nothing more we can do she needs to go to surgery, someone call for a surgical consult please?” At that point one of the nurses called for the head of surgery. Within five minutes the head of surgery had arrived and started assessing Lisa’s injuries. Once she had finished she addressed Lisa and sad “we have only two options, option one we try and repair your leg with a long and painful process that will involve a combination of metal plate’s screws and pins and at least six months of physiotherapy.” Lisa nodded “or option two is not the one I want to do is and that is we amputate.” Lisa gave the simple reply of “O.K.” The surgeon continued “I know this is a very big decision to make so we will give you a few moments to think about it.” Everyone left the room and left Lisa to think. After about half an hour Lisa called the doctor and surgeon back into the room. “I have made my decision, please fix me.” Almost instantaneously there was a flurry of activity as everyone in the room started to make preparations to send Lisa to the operating theatre. The Surgeon told Lisa “O.K. we just need to do a few more tests before we can take you in”. “OK what tests?” Asked Lisa, “Just a few routine tests that all, we just need to take some blood then if all is good we will have you in surgery within an hour.”
Elsewhere in the hospital Alex was being checked over by the pediatrition with the police officer in attendance. After what felt like an age the doctor went to the police officer and said “Alex is fine just a few bumps and burses nothing manger, however I would like to keep him in for observation until tomorrow morning as he has gone through something quite traumatic and he could turn and go into shock and we just want to make shore he is fit and well enough to go with you.” The police officer agreed but said “OK we will put in his own room and have an officer outside his door at all times for the safety of himself and everyone ells.” The Doctor nodded in response. “That’s fine we can arrange that also he wants to see his mother if that is possible?” The police officer replied “unfortunately I can’t allow that however I do know that she was brought here by ambulance just before we arrived.” “O.K. I will call down to A&E and see what I can find out and give you the information” replied the doctor. The officer give the doctor a hand shake and thanked him as he headed off.
Down in the lab they had just finished running all the test and had all the results ready. The lab technician had a quick look over the results before sending them up to the doctor’s. As he got about halfway through the results he stopped and had a look of shock on his face. “oh dear” he said dropping the paper work down to his side. He picked up the phone and called the Surgeon in a rush. The surgeon answered the phone and the technician said with a panicked voice “we have a bit of a problem with Lisa’s test results.” “What’s that” that asked the surgeon. “It would be better if I told you with Lisa”. He replied “we need to go and see her now I will be up in two minutes”. “O.K. I will be there waiting”. replied the Surgeon. Both the surgeon and the lab technician arrived outside Lisa’s room and both headed in with her results in hand. The lab technician said to her “Hello my name is Dr Nick Francesco I have your test results here and everything is OK apart from on small problem” “what’s that Doctor” asked Lisa. “Lisa you are pregnant and about two months along where you aware of this?” replied Dr Francesco. Lisa just bowed her head and let out a sigh, Dr Francesco took that sigh as a sine that she didn't know and said to Lisa “its OK we can still take you in for the operation but we will need to be extra careful”. Lisa replied with a simple do what you need to do but first can you get me a phone please I need to call someone about this”. Dr Francesco nodded and got Lisa a phone. After a few minuets he came back with a phone and handed it to Lisa “push 9 for an outside line” he said and she began punching in numbers.
“Hi Paul its Lisa” she began “sorry to call you at this time of day but I need to tell you something”. There was a pause and everyone left the room to give Lisa some privacy. Once everyone had left Lisa carried on speaking on the phone “I'm in the hospital don't worry I'm OK I just need to go in for an operation but they have just informed me that I'm pregnant and I needed to tell you that its yours I am about two months along they reckon”. There was silence both in the room and on the other end of the phone as Paul took in the news after a few seconds he replied “Are you shore and dose Harrison know?” “Yes I'm shore its yours and Harrison will never know as he was killed earlier today and I know its not his as we haven't been that close in years” replied Lisa. There was more silence and Paul replied with a simple “oh”. Then a few seconds later he spoke again saying “what hospital are you at I'm coming to see you”. “I'm at St Angus McFarron and you don't need to come and see me I'm fine” she replied. “you say that but if you are fine why are you in hospital and needing an operation?” asked Paul in a panicked voice. The doctors came back in the room and at this Lisa told Paul “sorry I have to go as they need to get me ready for sugary I will call you when I come round and feeling a bit better.” and then she hung up the phone. At this point the medical team started to prep Lisa for surgery and took her down to the operating thiater for her operation.
Back up in the paediatrics ward the Doctor who was looking after Alex had got off the phone to the A&E department and came back to the police officer and told him “O.K. I have just spoken to the head nuerce down in A&E and they have told me that Alex's mother has just gone into surgery and will be in there for quite some time. Her injury's are extensive and there is a lot of work to be done”. The police officer replied with a simple “thank you I will let him know” and went into Alex's room. After a little while the officer came back out and returned to his post outside the door. Back inside the room Alex was sitting on his bed looking out the window at the trees and the sun rays beaming through the gaps in the leaves as it was still quite early the sin had not risen fully and there was still a mist in the air. As he did this he thought to himself “That must be Sabrina looking down on me and mum and smiling that we have finely got away from the evil that was dad”. As he thought this a single tear ran down his cheek. Alex sighed and wiped the tear from his cheek and said “I love and miss you Sabrina I wish I could speak to you one more time so I can tell you how much I love you”. At this point he broke down and started to cry fully letting out a low grown and did so for around twenty minuets until he eventually fell asleep. During his sleep Alex began to dream, he drempt that he was playing in the fields with a lovely golden coulered Labradoar that had the most silky fur that you would have ever felt. He threw the ball that he had been using to play fetch with the dog, as he watched the dog run after the ball he noticed in the distance a figure dressed in all white with long wavy golden hair fluttering in the gental breez and noticed that it was coming closer. As he looked harder he started to make out the figueres face and noticed that it was his sister Sabrina he started running towards her shouting. “Sabrina Sabrina it cant be is that rely you, you came back I knew you hadn't died I knew you would come back”. As they ran closer and closer to each other they held there arms out ready to embrace each other and ran into each others arms. As they huged each other tightly Alex said “I have missed you so much you have no idea please dont leave again I love you more than you can think” Sabrina replied “i miss you too Alex but unfortunatly I did die and this is just a dream but befor you wake I just want to let you know that I am always watching over you and I am glad but sad at the same time that you have finaly got away from the evil that was father but you didnt have to do it that way. Please look after mum and yourself and I will always be watching over you.” at this point Sabrina's began to fade away Alex started shouting “no dont go please dont go please don't leave we need you”. In a fading echoing voice Sabrina said “Im always with you in your hart and in your mind I will never leave you I will give you strencth and guidence when you need it. Just think of me and I will be there with you”. And with those parting words she was gone and Alex was alone in the field and as he fell to his knees he woke up crying but not from sadness but happyness and said in a whisper “thank you”.
Chapter three
Back at the house the ferensics team had sealed off the house and where in the proses of removing the body of Harrison and where about to start investergating the house when they heard a soft knocking and a muffled voice coming from somewhere. They stopped what they where doing and listened for the sound again. They didn't move for two minuets and herd nothing so carried on what they where doing and then they heard it again and again they stopped one of them call out “Hello is there anyone there?” a muffled voice cried out and they started to head towards where the voice was coming from. The muffled voice carried on crying out. As the forensic team got closer and closer they started to make out the voice of a male coming from under a rug. They pulled back the rug to find a trapdoor with several key holes. One of the men said to the other “go get someone and bring a sledge hammer”. The other one ran out to get some help. He came back a few seconds later with a uniformed officer and a sledge hammer. The first man shouted to the gut under the door “STAND BACK WE ARE GOING TO BRAKE THE DOOR IN”. The man male voice replied “OK” and they began smashing the trapdoor in. after they had finished they relieved what could only be described as a small hole dug into the floor with very little apart from the person that the cries came from and a small bucket that was filled with excrement. The man was helped out of the whole by the three men who had removed the trapdoor and the police officer who had the sledge hammer started to check him over. After he had finished the officer asked “can I ask your name please?” The man replied “Sean. Can I ask what the date is please?” the officer told Sean “It's Monday the 15th of May.” “How long have you been down there?” asked the officer. “about three months” he replied. Sean then began explaining how he was abducted by Harrison and that he had been locked away in the hole and given old moldy food and was lucky if he got three bottles of water a week.
