The Pig, The Goat, and The Horse
Born 1978, M, from CONNECTICUT, United StatesThe Pig, the Goat, and the Horse
By Daniel J. Hartz
"Oink" said the pig.
"Baaa" said the goat.
"Ney" said the horse.
"Now that we have performed our morning rituals, what shall we do now?" said the pig.
"Well," said the goat, "this is what life is about, finding the things to do to carry us through."
"Yes," said the horse, "And sometimes letting out a primal sound is a very important thing to do."
"Yes," said the pig, "and that is why we say Good Morning."
Pig, Goat, and Horse were up very early today, earlier than usual. They would still have to wait for the sun to rise. Last night they had decided to do something they had never done before. And, what was that, but to stay up all night, to watch the sunset, and the moon rise, to watch the stars drift and just watch the night sky, to feel the breeze of the night and the coolness of the air, to hear the sounds in the wind and the cicadas buzz their primal sound. The cicadas were like a gentle humming lullaby, but it would not lull Pig, Goat, nor Horse to sleep, for they were eager for the sun to rise.
The three knew they would be tired and have to carry out their chores for the day, but they didn't mind, for they actually had fun with the children on the farm who helped their parents on the weekends. And, that is why they chose a Friday night to stay up like this, because although they would still have chores to do, they would not be as much as during the week. They also knew today would be a day of celebration on the farm, but for the time being, Goat, Pig and Horse decided to roll in the mud and enjoy this Saturday morning, something Pig got to do everyday. They knew they would not get in trouble because they could feel the air and the droplets in the sky, and from the lite bellowing they heard rumbling through the sky, they knew it would rain just enough to wash their coats and clean their bodies before any of the humans woke up.
Pig, Goat, and Horse loved their humans because they took great care for them. they fed them and did all the other things for them which showed love, such as milking Goat, for yes goats got milked just like cows, and brushing Horse's hair, for horses' hair could be long and wild, and of course they could not forget tickling Pig. This gave all the animals so much joy, and the joy was also felt immensely by the people.
The reason Pig and Goat and Horse chose this night to stay up all day was because they would be celebrating Goat's birthday. Their little adventure was spent to celebrate that Goat had earned another hair. At the age of 15 she was entering her golden years.
Goat was always happy, but never as happy as when she got to spend time with her loved ones and Horse and Pig had grown to be what she considered family, for they had grown up together from the time Goat was eight, and Pig was four, and Horse was two. They were all together at an auction being sold to the highest bidder. That is how Horse and Pig and Goat came to live together as a family. Sometimes animals, and even people for that matter, do not get to stay together with their mothers and fathers and sisters and brothers, so the people that adopt them and the other animals, if there are any, become family. Family is so important, whether it be the one you are born into or the one you create.
Just at that thought, the sun was beginning to rise, and the other animals were beginning to stir, and the children were beginning to laugh and giggle, and the adults filled the farm with the aroma of vanilla coffee brewing. But today there was also the smell of cake, as the farmhands loved celebrating the farm animals' birthdays every year. Although the animals did not get a taste of cake, they all loved celebrating the animals' birthdays in this way. With the amount of farm animals on the farm, the farm constantly smelled of vanilla bean and rich chocolate, not to forget to mention fresh strawberries when the farmhands would make strawberry cheesecake, which was a favorite smell for Goat. Goat loved strawberries because all the animals would get a taste of strawberries on birthdays, which were fresh picked from the garden. See strawberries are very healthy, even for animals. And, when it was time to celebrate, everyone would be laughing and giggling, and talking and telling stories about what had happened to them in the last few days. And, the animals loved listening to these stories and filling the air with their primal sounds.
