My Neighbourhood
Born 2008, M, from Karachi, PakistanThe fiery orb brightened the neighbourhood of ‘Fort Louis ’. The lofty trees swayed in the balmy morning. The azure blue sky was engulfed with fleecy clouds roaming around. As I sat on the patio sipping on a cup of piping hot tea, I caught my eyes on some people going out on a morning walk and on the other hand delightful ladies come to water their lush green bushes. The smell of freshly watered plants wafted in the air overcoming the putrid smell of the gutter. On the eleventh hour, people bolted towards their cars with plump and chubby children to drop their children to school and rush to work.
I jolted out of my reverie as the noise of the opening of the shutters resonated in my ears from far behind. This symbolized the start of the day. Looking behind, I saw cars meandering through the traffic. There was a cacophony of sounds as people honked their horns and drivers shouted at the top of their lungs. The road was now adorned with red betel nut stains. Children were coming home after a tough day of school and ‘FoodPanda’ riders rushed to the street to collect food from the delightful Aunty Sara. She is famous for making mouth-watering cakes and heavenly bakery items. The smell of fluffy cakes and flaky patties wafted in the whole neighbourhood tantalizing our taste buds.
As the hues of pink approached the sky, the children rushed to the streets holding taped balls and heavy bats to battle each other in a game of cricket. They search the whole plot to find some debris as a wicket. Alas, they find to grubby Pepsi containers. All of them swung their bat to hit a colossal six and some showed off their leg-spin to bamboozle the batsman. The noise of ‘Azaan’ echoed in the distance and all children scurried back to their home to devour on a delicious supper. Men came wearily from the office dragging themselves to their house as they wanted to lie on their comfortable bed.
The slatey grey sky entered the world. There was a deafening silence as no people or cars were roaming around. This symbolized the end of the day. The street once filled with a cacophony of noises and people was now filled with an eerie silence.

02/08/2022I really enjoyed this short story describing the hustle and bustle of your neighborhood till dinner time... then the eerie silence. You have a lot of talent for writing and a great vocabulary for someone so young. Well done, Aahil. Thanks for sharing your stories on Storystar.
