The One Time I listened to My Gut
Born 1960, F, from San Antonio Texas, United StatesI am not psychic by any means. But there was one time I listened to my gut, and this may have saved my life.
I was 24 years old. My Husband and then Two-year-old Daughter Amanda and I had gone out for Pizza. At this time in our lives this was a big treat. We rarely went out for Dinner. We were what now days are referred to as The Working Poor.
After dinner we walked back to our Apartment. My Husband left to run and errand, and I expected him to be gone for at least an hour. We had a tiny patio with a locking gate right in front of our door. Something told me to lock this gate. I left the front door open, which at this time was normal for us because it was done in an effort to keep our A/C bill down.
I just happened to look up, and see a young Man, not bad looking, he seemed nice and confident. He told me he was selling a book series for small children, which was highly recommended by Educators. In my minds eye I saw this Man raping and killing me. My gut said, do not let him in. My Husband returned unexpectedly and the young Man made an excuse and left.
I could never in a Million years prove my feelings. But I know in my gut this would have been a disastrous outcome.

06/18/2021I agree with both Gail and JD's comments. On a side technical note, you have a whole bunch of neurotransmitters in your gut in an organ called the "Omentum". It is filled with signaling chemicals, but it doesn't have any brain tissue to analyze what you are "feeling". So "gut" feelings, are actually real things...only when they reach the brain can you decipher them. But if you gut tells you something is wrong...it is really telling you the truth!

06/17/2021Better safe than sorry, Shirley! Why would he wait to knock till after your husband left? Why would he leave when your husband returned? I definitely think you were wise to listen to your gut! Thanks for sharing the story with us.
