Eight Grade
Born 1985, M, from Lansing/Michigan, United StatesIt’s your last week of eight grade. You will soon be in high school.Exciting…,right?
But…what if you are not like everybody else?
I mean you are not like those popular girls in your school that are pretty, famous in social media and have all the cool boys. Is that really what you want?
You really wanna be like them?
Of course you do..!
Well I just want you to say that you don’t have to.You don’t have to wake up every morning early just to do you makeup so you can take a selfie in your bed and post it with the ,,Just woke up like this’’ hashtag and post it on your story so everybody can see how ,,natural’’ you are.You don’t have to change yourself completely just to impress someone.I know …Now you expect me to start talking about being your self and that kind of cliché things that everyone has been told at least once in there life.
But nevermind….
It’s now the last week in eight grade. You wake up in the morning by the annoying sound of your alarm. You start applying those layers of makeup on your skin just to cover up your actual self.
Oh,so you’re telling me that you use makeup just to cover up your acne and that kind of stuff.Well, guess what? You’re 14 it’s clearly normal to have pimples. No one actually cares that you have them.At least I don’t.After you finnaly had done your makeup, after maybe redoing it a few times because this thing is hard to do sometimes
you just go and have breakfast while holding you phone with one hand, scrolling thru you social media, looking at those ,,perfect girls’’ that you follow and you wonder ,,Damn, why I don’t look like them’’
How I said earlier….you don’t have to.
Then you just go to school. You walk to your first class in that crowded hall, without actually meeting your friends.Well, you don’t really have friends. You are not that talkative person, which is fine,I get it.You’re not alone there are hundreds of people just like you being so ashamed to talk in public.Just know that you will find friends. It might not be today but it could be tomorrow. You don’t know what’s going to happened in the future…well,no one knows.

01/27/2021You write about teens that are torn between trying to fit in and trying to be themselves. You sound like you know what to do. Nice work.
