Smart Alec
Born 1960, F, from San Antonio Texas, United StatesSmart Alec
Alec can’t read. Some people call him “Dumb Alec.” This makes him sad. Alec passes a little girl he knows named Marie. Marie is crying. Alec says, “Hey Marie why are you crying?”
“No one will read my book to me?”
Alec frowns and says, “I don’t know how to read, and sorry I can’t help you.”
Marie says “Oh I know how to read, I just like to hear my story out loud.”
Marie smiles and asks, “May I read my book to you?”
Alec sits besides her and says, “Yes please do. It will be a pleasure to hear your story.”
Marie reads the book to Alec. It is a grand adventure about Pirates. When she finishes her story she gets a bright look in her eyes and asks, “Would you like me to teach you how to read? It would be a lot of fun?”
Alec feels silly that a little girl could teach a grown Man to read. But he smiles and says, “That would be very nice of you. Maybe one day I can read a book to you.”
Every day Marie teaches Alec how to read and write. In only a few months Alec can read and write just the same as you and I.
No one calls him “Dumb Alec” anymore. They call him. “SMART ALEC!”

01/05/2021Thank you. I got this idea from when I was young and a boy who thought he couldn't learn to read. It turned out he had dyslexia. He was sent to a specialist. He is now one of the smartest people I know. So no one should ever feel stupid or unteachable.
