The Person In The Door Way
Born 2006, M, from Oregon, United StatesThe door creaked open and all the air was forced out of my lungs with a high pitched sound.
My mother and I just moved to an old house. The house was in the woods and we got it at a price of 3,000 dollars. There are rumors that the house was haunted but my mom wouldn't buy it. The locals from the closest town said that everyone who has lived in that house never left. My father died in a car crash and it has been hard living in the expensive cities of California.
“Hey Maggie,” mom called. “Help me clean this room.”
I grabbed a rag and a spray bottle and ran upstairs. The sun is setting and we are almost done cleaning up. We would need to wait 5 days for the electricity and water to turn on. For now, we had to drink bottled water, use flashlights, and sleep in sleeping bags.
Soon enough, darkness engulfed the house and we went to bed.
Clang!
“What was that?” I said uneasily.
“I’ll go check, don’t worry honey.”
“I want to come too.”
“Okay, but follow me, it’s dark.”
The two of us went to look for the source of the sound. When we got to the kitchen, we saw a pan on the floor.
“That’s weird,” mom said.
I grasped my mom's arm until it turned purple.
“It’s fine, let’s go to bed.”
“Okay, mom,” I said still not letting go.
The wind howled and shook the rickety house. Suddenly, some sound was playing from a piano. I recalled seeing a grand piano that looked older than my great grandmother.
“Hey Maggie, stay here, I’ll go check out that sound.”
She left to go look for the piano. After a while, I heard an ear-piercing scream. Then, silence. No sound.
“Mom?” I whimpered.
I got out of the comfort of the sleeping bag and stood up. The door creaked open and all the air was forced out of my lungs in a high pitched scream. My dad was standing at the door….
