The Fishing Trip
Born 2008, M, from Portland,Oregon, United StatesThe Fishing Trip
One early morning, a little boy got ready for his first adventure. He didn’t know what he was expecting, but all he knew was that it was going to be exciting. When he got in his car with his two older brothers and his parents, he knew that this adventure was going to be big. “Where are we going,” asked the little boy named Duncan. That is me.
“We’re going on a trip, of course, a trip to Lake Harriet,” Daddy said.
“Is that on Mount Hood?” asked Noah, the second oldest brother in the family.
“Yup, it is on Mount Hood,” replied Mom.

We had arrived with our friends at the lake and started fishing. My brothers couldn’t fish because they didn’t have a fishing license. Dad had a license to fish, but he didn’t want to. I thought, what a waste of money. That was $10 down the drain. “I’ve got a bite!” said Dale, one of Mom’s friends.
“Already?!!” Liam shouted with frustration, “I’ve been waiting for over an hour and haven’t gotten a single bite nor tug.” Just then, I saw my fishing pole reach out far into the lake, I had caught a fish, or a fish caught me. “I’ve got one!... but... what do I really do?” I said with excitement and nervousness.
“I’m coming,” said Dale, “This is how you do it, first you have to give your pole a tug before reeling it in slowly.” I did what he said and without knowing it, had a fish gripped hard between my index finger and my thumb. I was smiling. Looking at my fish in happiness and disgust, I still managed to look at my mom’s camera.
“MINECRAFT!” my oldest brother, Jacob screeched. My competition was me versus Liam. I always wanted things like competition. I was winning so far. Dale had caught another fish and went for the next one. This fish was his third.

Time went by quickly, while we caught fish. In total, we caught 31 fish. I came in fourth because Jacob was first, then Gabriel, then Liam, and then, it was me. I technically won because he started first, then I caught five, but one was too small and was thrown back into the water. We were tired and wanted to go home, but couldn’t. We still had to eat and then could go home.
“Are we there yet?” asked my impatient brother Jacob. We arrived home and went to bed.
