Bacon Adventure
Born 2010, F, from Portland,Oregon, United StatesThe crisp scent of bacon was the first thing I smelled. I yawned and rubbed my eyes and placed my front paws on the rim of my bed and heaved the rest of my body on the floor. My tail wagged as I bounded down the stairs, hoping to find where the smell was coming from. I was very disappointed to find that the scent continued out the door. “WHHHAAAATTTT!!!” are my eyes failing me? I thought, is the door really open? I raced toward the door, knowing that I didn’t have much time. Jenny must be taking out the trash. I stepped outside, unsure of what I should do first. Just as I decided to keep following the delicious smell, a squirrel dashed past me. Of course I just had to chase it. I’m a dog, it’s what I do. I shot toward it but it was too fast for me. I had to give up. My legs were wearing out and I was exhausted. I decided that bacon wasn’t worth following the trail. I was wondering how to get home when I heard a menacing snarl. I whirled around and bared my teeth at the stray cat. It had dark brown stripes running down its back. Its fur stuck out in different directions and the cat made it clear that it wanted nothing to do with me. The cat hissed and ran away. I followed closely on its heels, making sure it didn’t get away. All of a sudden, I heard Jenny calling my name. “MURPHY!” She yelled. The cat froze for a second and raced away. I followed Jenny's voice and found her standing next to a tree. SHE WAS HOLDING A PLATE OF BACON!!! I happily devoured the bacon and raced toward the open door. I ran up the stairs and curled up on my bed, but before I drifted off, my last thought was, I don’t have to run away again, after all, I have lots of bacon.
