Tidal Wave 2.0
Born 2007, F, from Michigan, United StatesOn my 6th birthday, my family surprised me with a trip to Hawaii. I was so happy. As always, fun and happy things have a dark side. I still can’t believe what happened in Hawaii. But, It was fun. ~~~~~~~~~
“ Zoey!” My mom called from the patio. “ Coming mom!” I yelled back. I grabbed my water shoes and comb and ran out. “ Hey honey, Do you wanna go to the bea-” My mom called. I already knew what she was going. “YES! I wanna go to the beach!”
After I got into my bathing suit, my aunt took me and my mom to her favorite smoothie place. “ MMM! Des is yummy!” I said, with my mouth full of a dairy-free cookie. “I am glad you like it,” she said, drinking the last bit of her shake.
After our lovely drinks, we went to the beach. When we got to the beach, I ran through the rows of flowers as if it was made just to welcome me. We I got to the water I stopped. I stared at the lone sea ahead of me. As the waves crashed at my feet, I stepped closer into the longing sea.
Omg! OMG OMG! The ocean is huge! What could be out there! A MONSTER! I thought What if I drown! Oh gosh, I can’t do this! No, I have to! I… I am. NO! I’ll stay on beach. Ok, Zoey breathe.
I looked back at my mom and aunt. They nodded. I ran into the sea like a crazy person I am. I splashed and played. “ Aloha,” a voice said behind me. What does it mean! I thought. “Um, Hello?” I said turning around. “ My name is Lilly. What's your name?” Lilly said. “ Uh… My name is Zoey.” I squeaked. “ Cool! Let’s be friends!” Lilly yelled in my ear.
“ OK!” I said, sounding a little more confident. We splashed and played. We choose to dig a hole and make it a pool. “ You’re not from here, Are you?” Lilly said. How does she know I am not Hawaiian? I thought. “ No. I am from Michigan, In the main part of America. How did you know?” I said. “ The way you dig. You aren’t putting your horsepower into this hole.” Lilly said. Confused, I resumed digging.
“Let's go back in the water,” I said. She agreed and we left the go play in the water. She left the got to eat. I was sat down. The water was to my hips. I was trying to collect sand and seashells.
“Zoey! WATCH OUT! A HUGE WAVE!” Someone yelled. I wasn’t fast enough to move. The wave collapsed on me. Everything went black. I woke up on the beach with 2 lifeguards, My mom, and aunt, Lily, and her mom, and a lot of others surrounding me. They were all shocked. I was covered in seaweed. Everything was a little blurry, The taste of salt water drowned out the pain of a rock that hit my ankle going under. The pain of the sand in my eyes made me close my eyes. I woke up in hospital.
“ W-Where A-Am I?” I sputtered. My mom jumped off her seat on ran toward my bed. “ Zoey!” She said. “ W-What H-Happened?” I asked, still sputtering. My mom told me the story. I was surprised that I was alive!
Everyone on the beach ran into my room. In the crowd, I heard Lilly and my aunt. I mostly heard people say “ Your Ok!” And “ Oh thank goodness”. I also heard “ We thought you weren’t going to make it!”. The doctor ran in and pushed the crowd away. “ Ok, OK. Let her rest. Today has been stressful.” One of the doctor proclaimed.
“ She will be free to leave tomorrow.” The doctor said when the crowd left. “ Thank you.” My mom said. She whispered something in the doctor's ear. The doctor nodded and walked away. The doctor came back with my favorite drink. Pog. I drank it all in 2 seconds.
On my real birthday, we went to a luau. It was on the beach. I didn’t want to go back, not after what happened with the wave. But, when I was there, I met a hula dancer! She taught me how to dance like her! I had some delicious food. They sang me happy birthday in Hawaiian!
~~~~~~~
I loved Hawaii. The people were so nice. On the plane ride home, I had pog. When we came home the airport, we went home to a welcome home party. It was lovely. I told all of my family all of my adventures. But there is one thing for sure, I will never look at the ocean the same way.
