Linford The Tortoise
Born 2000, M, from JAMSHEDPUR, IndiaLINFORD THE TORTOISE
BY AYUSH
Linford tortoise was roaming about clumsily beneath the cottonwood tree. It had taken him two whole days to reach there from his swamp by the Daley Lake. He had come to see the wise old owl, Mr. Willis who he thought, would be of great help in the problem Linford was in then.
Mr. Willis came out of his hollow and asked-
“You must be here because of the challenge posed to you by Tomas rabbit, aren’t you?”
“Yes sir I am,” replied Linford. All the animals in the forest had great respect for Willis owl. Also, the owl was the advisor of King Arthur, the lion.
“Tomas rabbit has made a deal with me. He has said that if I moved at the same pace as the forest train does…neither faster nor slower…he would never make fun of my slow gait again.”
“Okay let me think then,” said Willis owl as he rolled his eyes up and down.
Linford waited patiently, he had full faith in Mr. Willis’ head. It was well known across the forest that when Willis owl came up with an idea he shook his head vigorously and so he was doing then. He said-
“Tomas rabbit has asked you to move at the same pace as the forest train but has he mentioned that you have to race against it?
“No sir,” replied Linford excited by the shine in the eyes of Willis owl.
“Then buy a ticket and sit into the train. A passenger moves with the train…in other words at the same pace…neither faster…nor slower,” said Willis owl with a chuckle.
The next morning all the birds and animals were gathered at the station. But no one could find Linford. Tomas rabbit was busy bragging about his speed and about, how stupid it was for Linford to take the challenge. Stationmaster Corey wildebeest, waved a green flag signaling the train to move, it was then when the animals saw Linford tortoise waving at them from inside the train. Tomas rabbit’s jaw dropped.
Moral-
None of us is perfect. No man ever was perfect. We all have certain disabilities but we should not allow these disabilities to hold us back. When we feel as helpless as Linford tortoise did, we can always rely upon our Willis owl or in other words our wisdom. After all everyone loves a good old owl!
