CHRISTMAS PAST
Born 1942, F, from Clearfield, utah, United StatesChristmas Past
Some times Christmas's Past, have been sad, without much to give, but I guess it's part of making us who we are, and what we're all about. It teaches us humility, and true compassion for others. We learn so much from the hard times in our lives.
We also, are very appreciative and feel so blessed, when goodness and prosperity enters our lives. After these hardships, sometimes we become givers to a fault. I know I love to give, it so warms my heart. I love seeing their little eyes light up, and the happiness of a little child is so worth it all.
I remember a time, while working, paying rent, child care expenses, utilities and not much left for extra's. My children were very young, I was working in Keypunch at Hill. Trying to keep enough groceries in the cupboard and the fridge. I should have had child support payments coming in, but both ex-husbands went out of State, and no federal laws were in place, to make them pay.
Here came Christmas, I think I had about twenty dollars to spend. I was proud, and never wanted anyone to know of my circumstances. In a few days after Christmas I would have another paycheck.
I was living in Washington Terrace at the time. I remember going to the Smith's store there. They had .69 cent plastic toys, mostly little cars and trucks. Yes, I bought as many as I could, plus sewed my sons some pajamas as well as made them each a warm coat with new gloves. My eyes well up as these memories come back to me. Those years were hard as a single mother, and yet, Christmas morning came, they unwrapped their little presents, and played with those cheap toys like nothing was wrong. I was amazed and learned it doesn't take much to make a child happy.
To me, Christmas is just for children.

No, Christmas is not just for children- your joy came from two things, the giving, and watching joy on your children as they played and played with their toys. My wife and I were just talking about how Christmas is enhanced by children, but isn't just for children. Our first year of marriage (some forty years ago) we had a Christmas Plant because we couldn't afford any kind of tree. And our gifts consisted of a comb for me (no longer necessary) and a brush for her. You would have thought they were made out of gold.
You have a Merry Christmas,
Smiles, Kevin
