AS THE STOMACH TURNS
Born 1942, F, from Clearfield, utah, United StatesAs The Stomach Turns
The Old Stray Dog
He was an odd looking dog, a big head, long body, about three feet long and maybe close to two feet high. He just walked right up to my door. I always loved dogs, no matter what they looked like. So I opened the door and invited him in. I looked in the fridge, yes I always had something, that an old kind dog would love to eat. Plus, I put down some fresh water for him. He had no collar, and was really dirty. After he ate and rested a short while, I put some warm water in the tub, with a little joy dish washing soap for a few bubbles, and grabbed the shampoo.
It was tricky getting that long body in the tub. I lifted the front part in first, then the rest kind of followed. I got the old boy all lathered up, then after the fact, I thought what in the hell am I going to use to rinse him off with? All I had was the shower head at that time, nothing I could move up around and under to rinse him off. Then it dawned on me and the light lite up in my brain.
I opened up the bottom bathroom drawer, grabbed the douch bag, hooked it up under the tap, and wa-la, instant stream with many other little streams all coming out at the same time. If looks could kill, I'd be dead, the way he was starring up at me. Water was going everywhere, I even got it in the eye once or twice, but eventually he was washed and rinsed clean. Then after towel drying him off, the best I could, it was front first again and out of the tub. Then I just opened the kitchen door, and out he went, into the sunshine. He was smelling great, with a full belly, and had experienced a new energizer bath, like never before.
