my very first grandchild
Born 1942, F, from Clearfield, utah, United StatesMy very first grandchild:
While working on the swing shift at Hill AFB, I got a phone call telling me that soon, my very first grandchild would be born. I immediately and very anxiously, left for the hospital. When I arrived, my son was pacing nervously about. Kipperlee, the beautiful mother of my soon to be granddaughter, was going through labor. She had been in pain for hours. It had gone on for way too long, when the Doctor decided enough was enough, and she would be need a caesarian. They took her into the operating room, and soon, out came my son, telling me about his beautiful little girl. He said, “Mom, she's so perfect and so beautiful. I couldn't wait to hold her.
Her mother had had a cold, and so did my little new born granddaughter. She had to be placed in an incubator for a short while. They monitored and closely watched her. As I looked through her little glass bassinet, tears streamed down my face.
At that time, I never realized the ultimate joy, and comfort this little darling would bring into my world. And the big part she would become to my life. There would definitely be something very special, that I would be so lucky to share, with this little angel. She would become my everything.
When my son's were born, I was blessed and happy, but there is something about that very first little grandchild, especially being a little girl, that I always wanted of my own. Something, that is so precious and loving, it's hard to explain. She would have the best that I was capable of giving. And still it just couldn't be enough.
The next day I went to this specialty store, I think it was called Tiny Tots. They specialized in the most beautiful little dresses, with tons of ruffles and lace. She had to have the prettiest dresses I could find. Along with a ruffled petticoat that lifted the skirt of that cute little dress up. And she would have satin slippers with lace socks. Oh, there is nothing in this world I wouldn't do for her. She was my world, and still is, and always will be. I am so very proud of her, and the wonderful mother of another little girl that she has become. I never knew I was capable of loving anyone so deeply, as I love my grandchildren.
