i guess this is goodbye, sis.
Born 2001, F, from Victoria, AustraliaI sigh as I enter the dull hospital ward, which is, by far, not such a great place for a dying person. I guess I should introduce myself first, my name is Brad Wilson and I'm a 17 year old freshman in New Jersey. I am here to visit my 12 year old sister, Josie, who was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago. I am visiting her on my own since my Mother was too grieved to visit her. All my mother did was sit in her room. She doesn't eat, sleep or talk to anyone anymore. My Father, well all he does is sit in front of the television, taking great swigs of beer and crying. He can't bear to lose his little girl this way.
I sign the list then walk over to Josie's ward. I lightly knock on the door before pushing it open myself. I walk over to the side of her bed and place a bouquet of her favourite daffodils on her bedside table. I stare at her lying so peacefully with her eyes shut. I reach my hand out to stroke her beautiful brunette hair. As I do so, her eyelids flutter up to reveal a pair of pretty, big green eyes. I smile at her, and she smiles back. tears start to well up in my eyes as I remember the same words the doctor had told me which had haunted me since the last few weeks. She didn't have long left. "I am really sorry sis" I say, as she smiles and says "for what? you have been a good brother, you supported me my whole life, we were friends since the day I existed. You've done your job, Brad. What else could a sister want?" she says softly.
"Why do you have to leave so early?" I ask. "It's just how life is, it comes and goes. You got to accept it as it it is" she says. "But why me? why has God chosen me to lose his sister? Why not another guy?" I wail. "I, am sorry brad, I really am, just remember that I will always be with you in your heart, wherever you go. I will always be there to listen to your sorrows and times when you need someone to talk to, just remember I will be there. Even when you decide to get married to Jen and have kids and move on, I will always be there to watch my little niece and nephew grow up," She says, and with that, she slowly shuts her eyes only after whispering, "goodbye Brad".
